Towel Day 2004
Mister Matty Posted Apr 13, 2004
I said it "seemed" off-the-top-of-the-head, as in "not all alternatives have been looked at".
Like I said, I was just stating my opinion not dismissing the idea completely. Why on earth are you being so defensive? I said I might still come along to the tour just that there might be other alternatives that we should look at first (since it is still over a month until the meet). I don't quite understand the need for this (apparent) hostility.

well could summarise options - see who wants/can do what and then see which is most popular.
So how about if anyone else has any suggestions then they throw them into the ring now and that gives us plenty of time to debate and decide, check about feasability of doing it, and then see what most want to do, organise and book, get deposits sorted (undoubtedly need them for whatever)

Well, we have gone bowling a few times before (like I said, it was only a suggestion and one made without scanning the "What's On In Edinburgh, May" guide (yes, I know such a think probably doesn't exist but whatever the hell those guide things are called). And it's only gone belly-up *once* and that was last time.

I'm not being hostile or defensive. If I'm being hostile/defensive, why are you always so bloody pedantic?

Mister Matty Posted Apr 13, 2004
I agree with Mort (predictably ). Since this is still a month off, we should thrown "brewery tour" into the big SRG Meet hat and other people other than the few on this thread who are coming and might have an idea can pitch in too and we can see which is best and most popular.
We'll all end up in the pub afterwards, whatever, so at least there's one thing we can agree on.

I thought the purpose of this thread *was* to suggest what we'd do. Right then. Cast your votes now for what you want to do during the day on Towel Day, people!

In what way am I being pedantic? I just posted about the brewery tour musing if I should go or not and you replied with a fairly hostile post asking me if "I could do better". There's no point in opening a can of worms like that and then getting upset about it. Anyway, like I said, I think Mort's idea is a good one so perhaps we could agree on that.

We should really start a new thread on the SRG page for people to chip in suggestions rather than do it here. That way anyone coming along new or who has stopped following this conversation will know what we're up to.

Well, since we've established that not everyone wants to go on the brewery tour, can't we have two different daytime activities and meet up afterwards, like last time? Or would that look like a plot to split the meet?
Towel Day 2004
Mister Matty Posted Apr 13, 2004
Well, I've started a thread for suggestions folks.
EV, by all means if there are those who are *really* keen to go on the brewery tour then do so, but I think we should hear the rest of the SRGs suggestions first. And, no, I don't think we should be splitting the Meet in two but if at the start of next month there's nothing to win-over the brewery people then go ahead.
Of course, if nothing better *does* show up then we'll probably all be going anyway.

Dr E Vibenstein (You know it is, it really is.) Posted Apr 13, 2004
Yeah, well, you don't have to "go anyway". There are always other options for those who don't fancy the idea.

Mister Matty Posted Apr 16, 2004
Okay, I'll put forward this...
I've obviously ruffled some feathers with my idea. I didn't mean to do that, it was a genuine suggestion on whether anyone else had any other ideas for what we should do for the meet.
However, since some of you seemed pretty keen on the Brewery Tour idea and were set on it it seems you've taken me as trying to metaphorically knock over your pint. Well, that wasn't the intention but I'll take on board the feelings of those here who were set on the Tour and I think we should all agree that for this meet the Brewery Tour is the official activity (unless those who decided on it change their minds of course, although I doubt that ).
However, in future perhaps we should use the "ideas into the hat" method for choosing the meet activity and then those attending can vote on it. That way we avoid anyone feeling left out and it's all democratic.
There, I'm a reasonable man after all.

I really appreciate a good beer or two now and again, but if I am making a night of it then I tend to avoid it - otherwise I end up like Veruca Salt? from Charlie and the Factory. Getting bigger and bigger and then become very unlady-like
