Here I submit a piece on one of the most famous characters in French literary history. Comments welcomed.

A very short, but very interesting entry. Short is good sometimes

I think it would be good to add the words '...called Le Gavroche.' to the final sentence of the piece, as I think that's what you meant, rather than just telling us all that there are lots of French restaurants

I agree, a good entry. It might have been nice to have more, but what there is, is good.

I'd just like to take you up on one point, though: it's not as rare as you think for the names of fictional characters to enter the language. There are lots of them.

A Jekyll & Hyde character
A Peter Pan character
Mrs Grundy
Pollyanna
Topsy
Scrooge

to mention but a few. Actually Malaprop is not a very good example, IMO. Although you can talk about a malapropism, you don't call somebody a Mrs Malaprop in the way you could call them a Gavroche or a Scrooge.

I suggest replacing Malaprop with Scrooge. But it's a minor point. Feel free to ignore.
