"london today was as grey as ever..."

Is there a point to reporting london weather? Or can we just make an assumption and go with it smiley - laugh

Somebody burst my bubble - we watch Coro Street (luv it!smiley - rainbow) and Weatherfield (fictional?) seems to always have nice smiley - star weather! Even in winter. It rained *once*. Is it like Xena, all editing and stock footage, is it a fluke or what?smiley - cat

Coro Street is manchester. Unless I'm horribly mistaken.

I remember a brit comedian joking about telly magic making Manchester look like somewhere you'd actually not mind living smiley - laugh

Look you, I thought that was Welsh Wales, see... I remember Griff Rhys Jones standing on a hill above a street of terraced houses, looking down and saying: "So. This is Wales. Ghastly, isn't it" and walking away.

Weather in Auckland? Diamond weather, sunny and freezing cold! smiley - star We've been listening to great music from 1984, 'Dream of the Blue Turtle': Sting, and 'Humans' Lib': Howard Jones. 'Welcome to Conditioning'! smiley - zen

I have a conspiracy theory. No one lives in Wales and we're just made to believe people do. It’s a joint plan between England Scotland and Ireland to create a region of people to be the butt of jokes and "at least I don't live there" comment.

How's that?

I have relatives there - no, really! My Aunt Mary (from L'pool) married a Welshman called Jones (aren't they all?) sometime in the 1930s. My aunt Mary carked it sometime in 1980, but she had children who had children.. you know how it goes..

According to my father, Mary was a difficult person. I never actually knew her. Her niece, my cousin Margery (sp?) lives in Welsh Wales now, and writes occasionally. Apparently, you have to be a difficult person to live there! smiley - smiley

Apparition, what makes you think I'm a *she* ?

British weather:
It's made up of islands, just like NZ, so the term *changeable* is practically implied in most forecasts
It's relatively flat, so the weather in one county is probably very similar to the weather in neighbouring counties... unlike NZ...

Odd things I noticed:
smiley - weird Invercargill is closer to the equator than Brighton is, yet Brighton is warmer, courtesy of the Gulf Stream I guess

smiley - weird I worked outside for over 3 years in England, and never once got sunburn - although I did get a *bit* of a tan

England, esp the South, can get VERY hot in summer, esp when there is little or no wind to blow away the smog

And it can get smiley - bleep cold, wind and Gulf Stream or no wind and Gulf Stream smiley - sadface

British snow is ignorant:
When it snows is Britain, it does so in the streets and on the motorways rather than confining itself to useful places like ski-slopes, oh, that's right, there arent any smiley - silly

British rain is indolent:
Rather than bucketing down for an hour and then clearing off for a week or two, British rain has a habit of drizzling for days on end, interspersed with some really half hearted downpours

The above *could* be factors that have influenced the proliferation of hundreds and hundreds of truly wonderful pubs smiley - ok
