TM, as you invited me, I shall post here. NB: I've never been involved with any ACE in hir function as an ACE, so there is nothing personal behind this. I will just compare your entry to what is said on the Official pages on ACEs; just as anyone who has no real idea of what an ACE is or does. ENTRY: Some(actually quite a lot of) Aces greet the newcomers to h2g2. This is not my cup of tea for the simple reason that I do not have the time to follow up on any replies I might receive from said new researchers. I am sorry about this but hey, that's just the way it is... OFFICIAL PAGE: A537734: Aces are under no obligation to be online for a specific amount of time, or to greet a certain number of people a month. All we ask is that you welcome new people when you are online and are committed to the project. A537725: The Aces' role can be summarised as follows: ... To enthusiastically meet and greet new Researchers on h2g2, and encourage them to join the Community. We like to provide as personal a service as we can, and one of the best ways to encourage new Researchers to explore the site and to get the best from h2g2 is to greet them personally on their Personal Spaces, and to point them towards current Guide and Community activity. The New Users page can be used to find out who to greet. To encourage and stimulate participation in h2g2 by pointing Researchers towards things they might enjoy on h2g2. To offer guidance to Researchers, and to refer Researchers with questions to the Don't Panic Help Centre for the Gurus to help out. ENTRY: I tend to use at least the same level of politeness as the researcher I am talking to. This is because I am of the opinion that if you express yourself in a certain way you should be able to stand other people who talk to you in the same manner. Please note : I do not swear or use abusive language, because I truly believe that doing so is the sign of a lack of civilization. OFFICIAL PAGE: A537734: Finally, it is vital that Aces are unfailingly polite to Researchers. Any critical or negative emails from Aces will scare off new Researchers, and this will only harm the project. A537725: The Aces are the upstanding members of h2g2. They are always available to provide a polite and friendly helping hand. This is the difference between the Aces and unofficial schemes: the Aces are exemplary members of h2g2, whereas unofficial scheme members can be anything they want. Tube PS: Everything else (i.e. stuff not connected to this entry) I shall post in the more public forum http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/F27584?thread=137076 on the ACEs' Home Page.

Hello Tube,
To sum it up : Exactly!
The only thing is that that is not the complete jobdescription as can be found on h2g2. And for another matter; Aces are people, they are researchers and they are Aces. So on the one hand Aces cannot hind behing there "badge-of-honour" or whatever, but on the other hand Aces can ask and expect to be treated with the same respect that all researchers receive.
Still, lets just see what comes out of the new thread eh?
Greetz,
TM.
