This is probably of little interest to anyone, but would make the EG more complete so here you go.

You might want to flesh out this entry a little, Tango.
How many inhabitants has Trotton? What does the name mean (the second bit, 'ton' means inhabited place - a bit like town). Is there a River Trot?
What are the pubs like? Would you recommend them? What type of beer do they serve?

In the Domesday Book (1086) it appears as 'Traitone', and in the 12th C it became Tratinton. Poss from Old English 'traeding' = a path or stepping-stones. Ot it may have been the estate of a man called Traett.
I was going to suggest that if you are in the vicinity you could pop into the local library or museum, which prob has lots of info on Trotton.
Also do a web search on Trotton.
I wouldn't mind a small wager that there's lots of interesting info on Trotton - do a bit of digging and see what you can come up with.

Yes, why did people settle in Trotton to begin with, there's a good start. Are they still doing the same stuff today, like Agriculture, or operating a Market Town? Or have things moved "on". Like is it the Silicon-valley of West Sussex. Or not.
Tango, this is exactly the way I understand the guide should be headed. People writing about where they stay or are from - if everyone did that, and judging by my U-number there are nearly 200,000 researchers, so there'd be, even allowing for a bit of doubling up, 100,000 geographical entries alone. Keep going, it's exactly the right thing to do.

Thanks for the comments. I will do a bit of research. Being only 15 i can't really comment on the beer in the pubs, i'll ask around. I have a book around the house that might have some interesting info. have to look for it.
If you want to know the number of reasearcher, btw, go to <./>Info</.>.
Where did you find that info on the origin of the name? Sounds like a useful resource.

Yes, it's quite useful. It's a Dictionary of Place Names. I found it under the tree one Christmas, many years ago, and it comes in useful from time to time. Somebody must have known I like reference books. Even with all the stuff on the web these days, there's still a lot of stuff that isn't online that you can find in books, and books are usually much more accurate - the web is full of errors. So hunt down that book, or try the library (or even a school library or maybe a history teacher?)

For British places, the AA and the Reader's Digest used to publish useful reference books. I expect they are still going strong.

A couple of links for you:

the painting at Trotton shows one figure of Gluttony drinking and another vomiting.
And there's other stuff out there if you dig around. Also Trotton as a surname as well as a place name.
