Trotton is a small village in the countryside. People often include the even smaller village of Dumpford in with Trotton so this entry will include information on Dumpford. It is on the A272 roughly halfway between Peterfield, in Hampshire, and Midhurst, in West Sussex. It is within a few miles of the county border.
One of the "landmarks" that is often used to indentify Trotton is the old bridge with traffic lights on the A272. This bridge is very near Trotton Church. One of the churches of the joint parish of Rogate, Trotton and Terrick. The church is famous for its, now fading, depictions on the rear wall of the Seven Deadly Sins and the Seven Beatitudes. Interestingly the Sins are the more faded.
The Hospitality Industry
There are very few businesses in operation in Trotton. Three of these are in the Hospitality Industry. Two Public Houses and one Hotel. The Pubs are The Elstead Inn and The Keepers Arms. The Hotel is a Best Western called The Southdowns Hotel.
Regular Events
There are two annual events in Trotton. One is the Trotton Church Fete and Duck Race. This is a fundraising event for the church and is famous for its Duck Race. Everyone pays to buy a plastic duck, all of which have a number on them. All these ducks are then dropped of a bridge into the River Rother. The first and last ones to reach a finish line win a prize.
The other event is the Mill Lane Bonfire. Organised by members of the local community, it is enjoyed on Bonfire Night1 by people from all over the area. There is a bonfire, fireworks and food for everyone. It takes place at the top of Mill Lane, a street in Dumpford.
