I disagree, most pages look best in Alabaster. But this is an old arguement smiley - winkeye

I do like Goo, but Alabaster is better for this column as the text is smaller and looks less cramped, the logo looks better on white background, and the letters - which I'll hopefully have for next week - won't have a bar across them. Don't worry, you'll understand that last point later. smiley - winkeye

The logo should be designed to look good on both Goo and Alabaster. Can the Post take advantage of the multiple-blob system for automatic modification of images on different skins?

You really should design cross-skin - it's like designing cross-platform, cross-browser web pages as much as possible - a total necessity.

Well, the thing is, I /did/ design for both skins. The original logo (a GIF) was made for both colours, and looked great in both. However, for whatever reason, they weren't able to blob that image. They converted it to JPEG - though I am sure there was another way of making it compatible for blobbing - which is why it doesn't fade in so well with Goo. Ho hum...

Maybe I'll send it in again and see if they can have another go.

Hmm...
GIFs are bad. Burn all GIFs!

I'd love to, but browsers don't fully support PNGs yet. smiley - sadface
Besides, if you're coming from the legal angle of the burn all GIFs idea, I can assure you that my GIF creation program has the rights to do so. smiley - winkeye

I _think_ mine does... certainly they've not been sued for it yet so I doubt there are any problems. The doubtfulness comes in when the Windows version doesn't come with the GIF plugins by default - or the LZW-capable TIFF plugin. However, the Linux source trees and precompiled versions do.

Isn't that weird?

Anyway, you can't patent software in Europe yet. I hope you never can.

Same here!
All those software companies bringing in standards, making them readily available, and then saying "Oops, no, sorry, you can't use that, it's ours." smiley - grr

The PNG standard isn't patented, is it?
