This is a case where committee work actually produces something that can be put to immediate use!

Still, I'm not sure whether the last para needs something more to it smiley - winkeye

I'm definitely a forward twiddler myself...

When I was in 3rd grade, my teacher was trying to discipline me for saying "I'm bored!" in whiny voice every few minutes, and would make me twiddle my thumbs for 5 minutes every time I said it. After awhile, he also made me do an old lady walk around the classroom while I thumb twiddled -- hunched over, shoulders scrunched up, chin up, butt sticking out.

Do you think I should add an extra twiddle or two? smiley - winkeye

Arpeggio - Keeper, Muse, Against Sequiturs, à propos of nothing in particular

You have a couple of typos.

Otherwise, I found the article quite instructive, though I did have to read the directions a few times, to get the hang of what you were explaining...smiley - bigeyes

They allow RED in Edited Guide Entries? Neato.

Thank you for this informative and profoundly philosophical article. I am definitely a deeper person for having read it. smiley - winkeye

Arpeggio, who is trying to figure out how to do that and type at the same time... with very limited success, for LeKZ

This may be the most profound entry yet written at H2G2.

I would like to see a deeper investigation of the etymological links between fiddling and twiddling

However, I note that not attention has been given to the ... I had always assumed that the twiddle was a two-handed fiddle hence the "tw"

Of course, you didn't mention the four-handed thumb-twiddle, for partners.

What, by the way is "tongue cluking" ... is it fun?

Oh, cluking is very straightforward. Just repeat after me:

cluk - cluk - cluk - ....

After twidd-... err, thinking about it, how about a health disclaimer section? There's the real danger of acquiring RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury) or Tenosynovitis !

* continues twiddling *

A576894 - Thumb Twiddling

Post 16

Shea the Sarcastic

Is there a chance of RSI if you change your twiddle technique occasionally, and take proper breaks?

This depends on how excessively you're doing it. Even tennis profis occasionally suffer from a tennis arm. But, in general, one should use a proper training schedule which starts slowly and reaches perfection after the body has got used to it Could you be bothered to interrupt twiddling (just for a minute or so and include these bits of wisdom in the entry? I already see the need for it to be in the Edited Guide, there's a mention of thumb twiddling in another entry that is up for PR: http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/F48874?thread=125597

Gnomon - time to move on

I think the following two sentences need a little work:

"It is important to remember that a person should not be judged by their Twiddle. Judging a person soley on their Twiddle without observing their good qualities would sadly brand one as a Twiddlist".

They are so similar to each other that it does not read well. Perhaps you should change the second sentence to:

"Such a judgement without observing their good qualities would sadly brand one as a Twiddlist."
