RSI = Repeated Stress Injury
Something you can get from being 
(no kidding) by excerting the sinews (sp?) in your fingers too much. Excessive twiddling without proper training carries the same danger

Ah, forget that, "Repetitive Strain Injury" is the full wording, the effect also goes by the name "Cumulative Trauma Disorder"
from a google search:
"This can happen even more quickly as a result of typing technique and body positions that place unnecessary stress on the tendons and nerves in the hand, wrist, arms, and even the shoulders and neck. Lack of adequate rest and breaks and using excessive force almost guarantee trouble."
Hence... be careful when twiddling your hours away!

I already have CTS (carpal tunnel syndrome) due to excessive mouse maneuvering ... adding a twiddle won't make much difference ...

I think if you look closely enough you will discover that the very last full stop of the Thumb Twiddling entry is in fact a teeny weeny disclaimer. With regard to legal actions against those credited with producing the entry it says -

Alright, it uses much more eloquent language, but you get the general drift.

Yes, but only if it has a big emergency stop button on it! I wouldn't want any machine to go wild while my thumbs are in there

I would definitely like a twiddle-o-matic, though the emergency stop button would be a wise addition.
