h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Following the example of the h2g2 Lurkers' Soc, I'm just browsing about to see what's happened here in the last months. I thought the stir with the Beeb had died down when 'The Blood of the Zaphodistas' was made stage to a fantasy roleplaying game... and now there's this.

It's not nice to see people leaving h2g2 because they can't live with the perceived limits imposed. It's worrying to see the first people banned. Banned, for gods' sake! Myself, I've never taken the whole thing so serious as to really climb any barricades for it, let alone leave... but I'm beginning to wonder. h2g2 has been a main hangaround for me since it was founded: shouldn't I do something?

So far I still think I'm too far behind on the news, I haven't heard it all from the horses mouth and I have some catching up to do, since I've been off site for a long time... anyway, in catching up I just wanted to say that your piece is very clean and clear and ensobering, in comparison to many other inflamed threads I've read so far. thanks; see you around.

"Ensobering" - yes that is almost exactly how I feel.

I have no idea what anyone should do. As I say in the piece - there is no right to freedom of speech here, and not can there be, since the BBC own the site and have limits on what they are prepared to publish.

In my view - all else is commentary.

If you want to see or contribute to something more postitive check out the Arbiter Scheme (Telephone Sanitizers) link in the first paragraph or so of my personal space.

And post sane comments. Not enough people do that, and the airtime gets taken over by hysteria.

Indeed, it seems like a good thing that's happening there, and I'll have you know that you have my vote. So does Tube, for that matter.
I've thought of applying myself, since if there's one thng I [like to think I] always am, it's in between sides... though many are, and I'd probably not have the commitment.
