I was just wondering if anyone has read the Phillip K Dick essay called "How to build a universe that doesn't fall apart two days later" It is the essay that Richard link later refers to in his movie waking life.

Now I am a huge fan of dick's novels and I have read all of them many times, however this essay which is mainly about his novel flow my tears the policeman said is so unlike anything I have ever read by Dick. I have read it several times now and I just want to know if any other Philip K. Dick fans out there would give me their two cents on this essay and also if you know of any other speeches or essays by Dick that were at all interesting let me know please.

Well I can not get into this essay too much or I will just be ranting on for hours so I will just say that anyone who reads this post should definitely check out this essay and then pose some questions about it. Here is the link to it http://www.prism.gatech.edu/~gte484v/wakinglife/philipkdick.doc

I will leave you with one question from this essay that really made me think and I think it will result in many a conversation and that is “What does a science fiction writer know about? On what topic is he an authority?” … Illustrated man out.

If you like Dick's 'How to Build a Universe...' essay you (which you seem to) would probobly like Jean Baudrillard's Theory of Hyperreality. There is a great H2G2 guide entry on it, I think it is in peer review. Link below.smiley - biggrin
