To be grammatically correct in British English (can't comment on American) 'an' should go before words beginning with a silent 'H', while 'a' should go before words beginning with an aspirated 'H'. The pronunciation of the letter 'H' depends on your dialect, some pronounce it haitch, while others aitch. So, basically, if you pronounce H2G2, haitch2G2 then type 'a', if you pronounce it aitch2G2, then type 'an'.
NB.I won't start a raging debate over which pronunciation of 'H' is correct

I think most researchers are members anyway aren't they?? Even if they haven't signed up.
Can I be a consultant instead - that way I can get the benefits and not do too much w*rk.
BTW I'm a member of The Procrastinators' Society http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A431911 and have postponed all work on a cure for my addiction until further notice.
Well - that's MY excuse

You seem to know consultants well
I'll probably take a look at the Procrastinators' Society when I get round to it.

As I said a few days ago; I will take a look at the Procrastinators' Society tommorrow!!!
I can't leave h2g2, I can't do anything else, although I managed to go clothes shopping this morning, which was a bit worrying; thought I might have to find an internet-cafe part way through shopping to get an H2G2 fix, but settled for a savory Dutch pancake instead; yum, yum!!!

Food and H2G2 shouldnt have to be mutually exclusive - I didnt eat dinner for the entire first week after I joined as the lab shuts at 8, so to not be present at 8 means no pc until 7am next morning, so I surfed on through from 4 till 2 every night, dinner be damned, but I am not proud....

Yes, what comfort I find in all those virtual calories, as I watch the scales slide down the slippery slope, from 68 to 64, ever shrinking...
