I'd like you all to know that I'm finding these comments very useful and they are being documented as part of the development process of the h2g2 redesign.
I'm consciously not yet getting overly involved in the discussions cos I value what you the members have to say. (was that English?)
Having said all that, I've just noticed that when I write an answer to a conversations , I'd like to see the text of the conversation I'm replying to. Maybe this has been tackled already, comments?

Scroll down after hitting "Reply"...

I guess it's on the bottom so that if you're replying to a long message this text box would not be at the bottom of the page.
With my browser settings 1024 on 21" on full screen, I can't see the message below this text field. Any Ideas on a solution where we could see the message you're replying to as well as this text field?
-We could try to arrange them side by side?
-or maybe show the first five lines above and with a link to the rest of the message below?
- on just start the message directly below the text field?

However you can't see what you're replying to if you hit a "discuss this (journal) entry" Might be useful, especially to us volunteer types who want to say something about new user pages It's mostly a problem when we have several windows open at once, you forget what you're wtiting about

As mentioned in one of the other threads(!), it's also a bit of a problem, that you see only one post when you reply. You're quite often replying to more than one post.
I'd like to reply in a popup window (like Linda), but I don't think DE likes that idea...

I find that a fast browser and the back button works wonders for this. If I lose track of what I wanted to say I just go back and forwards. It's no worse than having a pop up window, please no, I hate pop ups.

But I am often downloading emails, downloading virus upgrades, checking two or three conversations, all on the same modem link...

I used to find that downloading other stuff always slowed h2g2 right down, especially MP3s, so I downloaded a new driver for my modem and things have been much better since.

I use the back/forward buttons all the time on h2g2. Somebody suggested a tabular view for replying which still shows the complete conversation (eg. the normal side by side view with conversation list and postings, and a reply box in a form at the bottom). It might be useful but I'm against such an idea as h2g2 pages seem to take so long to load as they are.
What would be useful when entering text on h2g2, however, is a more intelligently sized edit box. With the resolution I have my screen on, the edit box for entries or conversations only uses half of the window horizontally; and its limited height is frustrating when editing large entries.
It's fairly easy to detect the resolution the viewer is using with javascript; if it's not viable for h2g2, maybe there could be an option for an extra large box in the preferences.
