Mr. Cogito Posted May 16, 2001
Hello,
The Northern equivalent of y'all seems to be "you guys", where guy is a gender-neutral term mostly. Sometimes people will say "you all", but be clear to enunciate the two words. Youse is just a local dialect, as is the "yins guys" of Pittsburgh.
Yours,
Jake

awright you guys, heres some of the changes....
-all refs to singular use have been removed, looks like most of the natives are in agreement that its two or more.
-I'm gonna have to stand by our southern brethren with the american grammatical generalizations, although i have made them less piercing... Colonel, if you were to write an entry on why american english was superior to british english, i would be behind you 100%
-"youse" has been mentioned in conjunction with "you guys"...
-I'm still unsure about the elizabethan usage, if anyone has anymore details, I'll try to squeeze them in, so long as they are not too extensive.
Congratulations!
