A Perfectly Normal Beast

Hello everybody, and welcome Dancer
As you've noticed, I have been gone for a while, and I'm afraid I don't have much time these days. I took a quick glance at my two entries and cross linked them where I thought was required. If you think there are more places that need to be links, let me know.
I'm sorry I don't have the time to go over your entries too. I'll be home 'till Saturday and then I'll be gone for another couple of weeks.

We need more time

We need more time. This is partly my fault because I got tied up doing other stuff (i.e., w*rk) but the project is not going to be finished by Monday. I intend to work all morning on this project today. I will post my bits on Human-Centric Computing including Visual Programming Languages and Children's Programming Languages later on today. I also have some comments to make on the content of the pages PSG and Ab Guy have already published. I have started a separate thread for content-related comments here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/F65718?thread=123438&skip=0&show=20 I think it would be helpful to keep the talk related to the organisation of the project separate from the content-related discussions and from the stuff about style, spelling and grammar. I have set up yet another new thread for the latter. http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/F65718?thread=123439&post=1079903

Asteroid Lil offers this unedited Guide Entry for the project.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A581979

It seems to be in the right sort of vein.

If we want to include it, perhaps we could invite Lil to join us.

I agree it is the right vein, and it would be useful to explain what exactly goes on in the CPU's "brain", but if we where to include this it will need to be simplified, and used to complement what Ab Guy has said about compilers.

I'm sorry to say, but I'm under great time pressure IRL, so I may not be able to finish my page on time.

I'll try to, but I don't know If I'll be able to spare the time.

Sorry,

Dancer, the advantage of submitting your page with the project will be that it bypasses Peer Review.

The problem with submitting a related page at a time after the project is edited is that the new page will have to go through peer review. This means that we cannot link to it from the project pages whilst we are writing them. This is because the editing process through Peer Review results in a change of the new page's URL and we cannot know this new address in advance.

Moreover, it is currently difficult to alter pages once they have been accepted into the Edited Guide. This means that we won't be able to update any links in the project pages in the future unless the system changes. But there are rumours... smiley - smiley

On the other hand, links to pages put through *with* the project will be updated, at the time, by the Sub-Ed. So the moral of this rather lengthy tale is that you should submit your pages with the project if at all possible. This also holds for Lil's page, Marv's ideas, PSG's extra pages and my page(s) on children's programming languages.
