Pete, never to have a time-specific nick again (Keeper of Disambiguating Semicolons) - Born in the Year of the Lab Rat

Gorblimey! How long did this project float about before finally catching my attention?

Anyway, I have a suggestion for another article: one on commenting. I had the idea ages ago and created the placeholder, and would have written it if I could have been bothered. Here's the placeholder:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A573167

I'm willing to write it myself if people give me ideas. Otherwise, if somebody out there wants to write it, email the article to me (see my persomal space) and I'll put it up, crediting myself only if I change anything. (Technical query: Would it be possible to remove my credit if I ended up not contributing?)

One comment so far: 'Algorithm' has no 'u'.

Hello Pete
Thanks for dropping in, the art of commenting is an important point I'm surprised I didn't think of.
Yes I would be glad to include it, but it will have to be relatively quick as the process of sub editting is starting. If you are still interested in writing it here are some suggestions [I hope this is what you mean't]:

How about coming up with a complex yet understandible piece of code, [a couple of interlinked loops or something] and basically show how comments relate to the code, i.e. ask what is it doing? without comments, with highly technical comments [technical words and TLA's], with normal comments, with explicite comments.
Also perhaps bring variable names into the equation, you know start with Alpha numeric or numeric names, through obscure names, to clear names relating to the subject.

Well, if you need more than that it might be better to ask me some specific questions.smiley - smiley

p.s. I have seen your comments on data and info, good idea but it is a bit long, I'll see what I can do to edit and include it.

p.p.s Whoops I thought I had got all the misspelt Algorithms, thanks for pointing it out.smiley - smiley

Good idea. I can probably find something in the Linux or GNU Project source code that would fit... I think that would be legal. I'll see what I can do. However, I might not be able to come up with some source *and* write it before the deadline. Is it possible to add articles to the project once it's finished? I might need to do that.

Well, to be honest an artical can be linked to after the project is subbed.
But I will take the philosophical aproach, get the article to me when you can and I will do my very best to get it in with the project[to be honest I can't see them having a problem smiley - smiley].

Well glad my suggestion is helpful, I look forward to reading the article.smiley - smiley
