There was big hype in the media about films where living real people are tortured to death. Everybody believes that these films actually do exist and have been shown in public theatres.
But it was all made up. No single film has ever been shown in USA, as you can read in the straight dope.

So you move from accepting one source to accepting a second one?

Yes, I already noticed that by myself! Well, everything depends on a source, as I can't be anywhere anytime. I deal with sources that way:
1. I think myself, checking probabilities and scientific approach of the source.
2. Sources which allow for open discussion are more trustable.
3. Sources which are neutral, that is don't fight for something.
4. I check multiple sources, but you have to watch out whether they simply copy for one another.

Interesting one.
I prefer to check the non-mainstream media. (whatever that may be) on things like this... for example, The Media in general believes not only this but that children are having their hair dyed and clothes changed in order to be kidnapped, that a man was microwaved to death where he worked and that exams are getting easier.
