Bicycles in Amsterdam

While visiting Amsterdam, I noticed that the bicycles are for free public use. If you need a bicycle, apparently you are just supposed to walk up and take one. This is apparently what everyone else does, as it happened to my bicycle three times.

This entry seems to be a bit out of date... The public bike system, or "het witte-fietsen plan" (white bike system) doesn'nt excist anymore.
Instead, they have replaced it with a new system called "theft". What you do is, you find a local junkie, and you pay him 25 guilders
("een geeltje" in the local language). He then finds you a bike, breaks the lock, and there you have it! Your brand new bike.
This is wonderful, because not only do you get a new bike, you also supply the junkie with his drug-money, thereby investing in the drug industry
and keeping the French government pissed at us (the Dutch).

And this system, my fellow Dutchman, is f course perfectly in order since property is theft, and therfore theft property. Steal it, and it´s yours to ride.

I didn't realize the system was called "theft." I had chained my bicycle up outside the very interesting coffee shop I was visiting. I say this coffee shop was interesting because most of the clientele was not purchasing coffee. Unless you can smoke coffee?

C'mon Dex, must we spell it out for you?
D-O-P-E. Don't weasel around, just smoke and don't choke and you'll be a good bloke.
OF course, you could try smoking coffee anyway.

Last time I was in Amsterdam I heard the cafes selling extra thingies were called brown cafes cos of all the smoke stains.
Can you smoke a bicycle or is it just the chain that's for smoking?
