We are not a number, We have names but Who is Number One? Your Formaula is incorrect in it's assumption that 42 is the solution. The correct question is aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!

I've worked mine out though. If I'm 188578 then: 8-8=0. 7*5=35
+8=43-1=42!!!!!

Only thing is they have to be in order so yours would really be:
U188578 = 1x(-8/8) + 5x7 + 8 = 42
And I'll add you at the appropriate point....
