How about a link to my Battle of the Barrels entry at http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A477867

Not a thrilling story, but one which I feel shows the lunacy of the times.

Absolutely. The more I work on this project, the more lunacy I see...

Of course you're referring to the times and not us for attempting this thing.

Right?!? smiley - winkeye

It's full moon and here's my final list of entries that I plan to contribute - unless you want to start paying me. smiley - winkeye

OK. Here is the final rundown on the entries I'm planning:
General 'Mad' Anthony Wayne - done
Battle of New York - not started yet
Washington's Retreat from New York - working
Washington's Crossing of the Delaware River - done
Battles of Trenton and Princeton, New Jersey - working
British Capture of Philadelphia - done
Battle of Brandywine - done
The Paoli Massacre - done
Battle of Germantown - done
Battle of the Barrels - done
Valley Forge - working
Battle of Monmouth - not started yet
Battle of Stony Point - not started yet

That should cover most of the major fighting in the Middle Atlantic States in chronological order. I also left you a note on your personal space in the 'Revolting' forum.

Cheers! smiley - ale

Thanks, Jimi. I hadn't been ignoring you... I've just been a little busy.

That sounds just about right. Combined with my next project on the Southern Campaign and the Quebec Invasion, we should have the war covered. I still intend to do that bio of Benedict Arnold, as well. I don't know what else will occur to me... I'm playing this by ear. And just like last time, I'm not going to let myself become overly concerned with deadlines. When it's finished, it's finished.

Is there anything else you think we need to cover?

I think we really *do* need to write up something on dear old George Washington. smiley - smiley

If you'd like I might give him a try once I wrap up this other stuff. And how about the naval stuff (I'm not volunteering for that though - I'm not a big fan of naval engagements).

Perhaps bios of the British generals, but I don't think they're needed as much as Washington.

I'll volunteer to cover the naval stuff, since you're volunteering for old George. I'm the most qualified, I think, having been a part of naval tradition myself.

The British generals probably should be covered, but I'm not sure if I'm the right one to do it. It's a shame we haven't been able to bring aboard any Brits. They'd do their generals better justice than we could.

Marquis de Lafayette may be another figure who requires a bio... damn! This project will never end, will it?

Full marks for the Steinbeck quote, by the way... it's absolutely brilliant.

OK, I'll do Marquis de Lafayette but only since my family originally hails from Fayette County, Pennsylvania and I'm going back there this week.

But that's it! No more! I beg of you!! smiley - winkeye

And as soon as I read that Steinbeck quote I thought of h2g2 and how annoying all that nonsense is.

(Little known fact - A long time ago I created an alter ego (Uncle Sam) to deal with the anti-American crap on site and flex my nationalistic muscles though I haven't reactivated him yet. He even has a couple of Edited Entries to his credit - Uncle Sam and the Star-Spangled Banner)

Have a good Fourth! smiley - ale

Whoa! Ask and ye shall receive...?

Glad to have you aboard, Gedge, if you're willing. I think we're looking for bios on some of the more prominent British generals... Gage, Burgoyne, Howe, and Cornwallis come to mind. It would probably also be be pretty cool if we could get some on Hessian generals, as well, like von Riedesel. There's quite a bit of info available on him, because his wife traveled with him, and she kept a diary which has seen publication.

Anybody and everybody you feel willing to cover would be just fine. And don't worry about being up to snuff... I'm not, either. That's why they call us "researchers"... smiley - winkeye

Just found out the war didn't end in 1776, told you I didn't know much about the period, anyway I've made a start on Cornwallis, i'll let you know when it's ready.
