Project: The American Revolutionary War
Created | Updated Jan 28, 2002
This Department of History project is to compliment the previous project entitled USA-Birth of a Nation, which dealt with the ideological growth of the United States. This project will cover the military side of the conflict with Great Britain over sovereignty. Specific articles in progress are:
- The Battle of Lexington and Concord: The first armed conflict of the Revolution.
- The Battle of Bunker Hill: The bloody encounter, named for the wrong hill, which resulted in a Pyrrhic victory for the British.
- Hudson River Campaign: A full account of the invasion of New York's Hudson River Valley by General Burgoyne, from the first attack at Fort Ticonderoga to his eventual defeat at Saratoga.
H2G2 historian Jimi X is contributing the following:
- Washington's Crossing of the Delaware: An account of the daring, desperate attack.
- The Battle of Germantown: A comedy of errors for the fledgling Continental Army.
- The Battle of Brandywine:
- British Capture of Philadelphia: General Howes campaign to capture Philadelphia, concurrent with Burgoyne's invasion of the Hudson River Valley.
- General 'Mad' Anthony Wayne: A biography of this colorful, overlooked leader.
- Valley Forge: The winter headquarters of the Continental Army, in which the Continentals suffered great privation, but emerged as a cohesive fighting force.
- Paoli Massacre: One small battle in the military scheme, one tremendous propaganda weapon.
- Battle of the Barrels: An absurd episode of American "ingenuity".
