A Conversation for Project: Skin Problems

Skin cancer part I (Well, part III, actually...)

Hi Sue!

I've posted what I've done so far, just to prove that I am working on it smiley - winkeye

It's not finished yet, but I'd be grateful if you could have a look at it and let me know what you think. This is kind of my specialist subject (I'll get round to writing the 'proper' stuff eventually!), and I can bore for England on it, so please tell me if it's too long, detailed, technical, or just plain boring. smiley - zzz

Blimey! Surely you don't need me to tell you that it's good smiley - winkeye
I've said before, guide entries are as long as they need to be, but thats just my defence for the psoriasis entry...smiley - headhurts

Not to technical (if I can understand it...smiley - erm), not too long and definately not too boring! Tidy it up if you wish, but it looks good to me... oh and if the inspiration to write any more should overcome you, just say so...

And you do realise you've put me to shame by doing this so quickly don't you?

You're too kind! smiley - blush

There's not much more to add to this bit, honest... And the reason it didn't take very long is 'cos I lived and breathed this stuff for three and a half years smiley - yikes

Providing you don't think it's overdoing it, I'd like to add a page on melanoma, a page on non-melanoma skin cancer, and a miscellaneous skin cancer page. And then I'll go and lie down in a dark room for a while smiley - online2long

Do I mind?... This is exactly what I was hoping for when I first set the project up. Well, you and another half dozen volunteers...

Scribble way, please. Post the page numbers up when they've been created and I'll link them in.

Suppose this means I'd best get mine finished now. smiley - winkeye

oh 'eck!

I only turned my back a couple of days...

Not much time tonight so if the pages don't get updated today, they will tomorrow. Barring further disasters with pc functionality. smiley - erm

Off to go read though

Don't worry - melanoma is going to take a little longer 'cos it's a lot more complicated smiley - huh

Good luck with the pc - I know the feeling smiley - grr

Sorry I'm a bit behind with this Danny - I've been without power for the much of the last 2 weeks or so (the house re-wire from Hellsmiley - winkeye) I've been working on my end on my pocket pc thingy, but I really don't have the time to update much on here yet.

I'm off for a week in Dorset on Saturday for some sorely needed R&R - once I'm back with a bit of luck I'll get all my end updated, get a sub-editor on the job and get this project up on the front page.

Is this the final instalment by the way? Not that I'm being greedy - but if there's any more to come we can delay a bit.

Thank you again Danny smiley - smiley

Well if you will go doing silly things like rewiring your house... smiley - winkeye

I'm finished with skin cancer, but if you think of anything I've missed, just let me know.

Have fun in Dorset smiley - smiley

After seeing some of the scary things being pulled out of my loft (!) the rewire really was a 'must', but a girl can only stand so much scrabble by candlelight before going slightly coo-coo...smiley - winkeye

The skin cancer bit looks pretty complete to me. I see what you mean about the melanoma being the more complicated. It is the most technical of the entries but it does read fine - to me at least. I'll leave the final say so to the powers that be and whichever sub-ed gets persuaded/bullied/press-ganged into sorting the project out.

These are entirely up to you if you'd like to take them on - 2 entries I've had at the back of my mind to do but will not get the time now.

sensible sun exposure (seems to tie in nicely with your skin cancer stuff?) Something I did really want to do after getting very badly scarred one year sunbathing (on doctors advice for psoriasis) while smothered in coal tar cream. I haven't yet forgiven the GP for not warning me about that...

an update to the entry on itching http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A283060 I may yet have a go at tackling an update for that - it really seems to need it.

Up to you, but if you do feel the urge to write a bit more...

Dorset here I comesmiley - biggrin

OK... while you go swanning about enjoying yourelf in Dorset, I'll see if I can cook something up about sun exposure smiley - winkeye

And scary things in the loft?

smiley - spider? smiley - bat? smiley - ghost? smiley - monster? smiley - shark? smiley - tomato? smiley - drunk? smiley - thief?

Hi Danny - sorry to have taken so long getting around to sorting this out. (I have a vast list of excuses, none of which I'll bore you with nowsmiley - winkeye)

Suffice to say I am now back on the project, trying to find us a subed and will have all the project pages updated in the very near future... or am I tempting fate here?

Nice to have you back smiley - biggrin

Let me know what you think of the 'Sun Exposure' article - it might be the sort of thing that could do with some of the more 'handy hints and tips' type of input from other writers...

Project front page updated. I've put thesensible sun bit in the 'in progress' bit for now - I'm sure there were a couple of conversations going back a few months that might give the sort of group input you'd like without having to go over to ask h2g2. Let me have a rummage, see what I can find.

Finally got a chance to rummage. These might help... http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/F75362?thread=138995&post=1277911#p1277911 http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/F56150?thread=87571&post=711534#p711534 http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/F56150?thread=84391&post=675860#p675860 http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/F19585?thread=121504&skip=0&show=20 Or if you're a bit busy with the sub-editing now I'ii try & pull a few bits out of this lot, email it over and let you incorporate it. Let me know either way because I think I just might have finished the rest of it - at last

No problem! I'll have a shufty through these and try to finish the entry - hopefully by the end of the week..?

Don't rush, I've still got to try & get a new sub-ed for the project. About time I went and reminded Chris about that smiley - winkeye
