I think our computer had a bit of a personality crisis some time ago; kept switching between US and UK keyboard layout Very confussing for me : Then of course, my lodgers been learning Spanish, and has been switching the keyboard over to Spanish character set ; after which the computer refuses to go back to UK layout well, it does eventually, but sometimes it is a struggle

I started out with a french keyboad thinking it's french, ok that works, but then to get it qwerty I changed it to US the other short cut setting, still defaulted to french. Now it defaults to UK but can be changed to french at the click of a button for varios accents etc!

I think that sounds like what my Lodger has done now, so he can switch between spanish and UK, luckly for me, he leaves it on UK most of the time

Ah ha! So soon as he's switched it over to Spanish, and then finishes what he is doing and switches to a new window, it clicks back over to the default UK or US Now all i need to do is figure out the problem with my sound drivers not unloading properly at shut down/loading up properly at boot up

Windows 98 version two.
office XP, and a soundblaster live! sound card...
512 MB RAM, I think its a 1.7 processor, though I've no idea on the bus/bios speed thing (I like the sound of the P4 prosessor, with the 3 Gig processor, and 800 c bios speed ) though I doubt I'll e upgrading for a while Hmm,
Hello
E G Mel Posted Jul 10, 2003
I had real problems with my sound blaster but that was because the drivers weren't up to win XP.
I take it you have got all the drivers up to date. If not nip and have a look on the creative page. If you have then the creative page might be a good place to go anyway!

:-I'm not sure if they are up to date; both me and my lodger use this PC, and he knows an awful lot more about computers than me, as its a big part of his work.... He normally* keeps stuff like that up to date, so I don't bother; he's off from Monday, I'll get him to check : That way, if he does it and messes anything up, I don't get blaimed : we got some of this 'anti spywear/popup softwear the other day zeus, the amount of stuff that found on the machine.... its pretty good at preventing the popup adds on sites which is very handy I'll let you know how it goes with teh sound card, I might go check their site this afternoon, if I get a chance...

Puter seems to be working fine of late, think the spy software stuff is history kill 2003, and add aware, or something
Hello
E G Mel Posted Sep 24, 2003
Glad to hear it's all working fine now.
I have started using Mozilla as a web browser. Apart from some sites which tell me I must have IE it's great!

I've never used anything aside internet explorer seems to work fine, so I don't know that I'd ever bother changing, lest I saw some feature of another one that I really* need Does the web browser affect much the speed of bringing up pages etc? even on broadband i find this pretty slow sometimes especially on pages on H2G2 sometimes

I like it because it lets me open things in new tabs within one window rather than having lots of windows open. It also has 'mouse gestures' which mean you can move the mouse in a particular way to move back and forth as well as do things like open and close new windows/tabs.

Funny that, I saw something pop to the top of my conversations list which had a last posted date of sept 2003 and I though that was a little strange! Usually it's Argon0 but I haven't seen him around for ages
How is the meet organisation going?

Hmm, not seen him in a while either... I get a bit melancolic sometimes, look through my friends list and at people from conversations I've not seen for 'a while', and notice some I'd talk to daily over a year or so, haven't posted in years Organisation for the meet? None whatsoever as yet I ought to email that pub in London about its possiblity of being a venue for the summer meet But I still need to get organised for the Spring meet, and I can't even remember when that is
Hello
E G Mel Posted Apr 19, 2004
I find that too, or that I just haven't been in the same forums as people I used to chat too.
It's like I'm growing old and a new wave of h2g2ers have arrived and the ones I used to see regularly are lost in the flood somewhere!
Being in France this year I should have organised a French meet, however being disorganised as ever I didn't get round to it

Yeh, but with the new people come new friends I guess... though its strange how few people now who I talk with frequently on here are the ones I'd talk to daily a few years back I really ought to get this meet beginning to be organised or something
