I have written this article, hopefully for the edited guide, to introduce more people to what I believe is the best 'miniature' based game that exists.

I also hope to help lapsed gamers into using the link in the article to get them in touch with the wide network of players out there on the world wide web and to get them playing again.

I like this article - it's clear, concise and very well-written. However, there are one or two things I'd like to point out.
Firstly, entries look SO much better in GuideML, which leads me to my next point which is that if you were to convert it to GuideML you could use headers to separate the different sections (e.g. history, rules etc.).
If you've never used GuideML or HTML or anything like that before, then don't worry. I only started using GuideML the other day and it's actually a lot easier than I thought it would be. You can learn all about it at http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/GuideML-Clinic

Hope that helps.
All in all, though, a good entry smiley - ok

This is a fine entry.

I'd like to see a little more background for nongamers as to what Warhammer is about. And maybe a little background on more of the races and their style of play?

Other than those minor points, this looks good. smiley - smiley

I'm one of those "lapsed gamers", myself. I played an Undead team - I did pretty well - though not as good as some other people. I ended up with a nice versatile team, with Mummies doing some solid blocking on the front row, while my ghouls scouted round the back and opened themselves up for touchdown throws. There were vampires too, but I can't remember what they were good at. It was a fun game, and I enjoyed it greatly.

You might want to link to this entry on "Football" which mentions the american version here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A138368. If you mention the orc team then you could link to the entry on orcs here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A419221 . Similarly for entries on other relevant fantasy creatures - eg Hobbits (AKA Halflings).

What I *wanted* was a Dragon team - but sadly there weren't any rules for them.

We played a variation where there was a referee figure and a couple linesmen - at the end of every turn he was placed within a 10-square radius of the ball, placed so as to be as far aware from any players as possible. Then you could deliberately smack the referee to stop him sending your players off. smiley - biggrin

I can't actually find the 4th ed rules on that site, which is irritating. Oh well... smiley - sadface

It appears that GW have updated their website. The link above gives access to a wide range of .pdf files, including 4th ed. rules, team rosters, team lists etc.

This brought back some memories! Another lapsed player here, from back in the days of the original rules, when you couldn't run through a deathzone and games would tend to become what we used to call a "Thrud" - two lines of heavily armoured dwarves beating seven shades of mithril out of each other until one of them is taken out allowing the fast one who was standing at the back to nip through the gap with the ball, and hopefully scoring. Happy days.....

I played 2nd edition - badly - and still own 8 teams which are packed away cos I needed the space in my display cabinets. The only survivors of this process are my favourite team the Cavebeasts, consisting of 6 Ogres and 4 Goblins! I never got into the later editions as they put a time-limit on the turns, which tended to lower the destructive possibilities of my tactics. Mind you, the Fanatic revival has piqued my curiousity, even bringing back memories of my failed attempt to create a 40K equivalent.

A small amusing story. I work for a large company. Our annual employee conference was held this week. In front of an audience of 1700 people, our MD was talking about unpredictable new trends in the marketplace. Pokemon was mentioned. "Warhammer", he also said. "That's a new thing the kids are into this year." Finger *right* on the pulse there, then...

I haven't yet met anyone that plays with a time limit to turns even though the rules stipulate one. I can see the need for it in large organised tournaments and also as a means to penalise really well developed teams as they take longer to work out what to do with a player with 4 or 5 skills.
