Found an awesome program off-site by Twinkle which allows one to creat smiley-sized graphics with the use of html code for tables. Since tables are still allowed in h2g2, these graphics may be allowed to slip into our pages. (And I've seen other of these graphics on other pages, so if these are censored, then all others ought to be.)
The link below goes to black ski mask smiley, goo beret smile, AK-flowerty-seven and :X smileys.

AK-flowerty-seven? That's a brilliant name for it.
If I have time, I'll try to draw some bigger pictures - maybe the real Subcom? Shouldn't be difficult, just a matter of sussing out the pixels and assigning a table cell to each one. Copy, paste.... grr!
Anyhoo, good to see people are still joining. I'm not very active on h2g2 these days, but I always check back to see how the Zaphs are going. One day we'll win, and I'll be back full time. Lol, of course.

I've got a program to convert small (up to 50x50) bitmaps into tables... I gave up on using it because the GuideML parser inserts a long tag into every table cell, so a 50x50 grid takes up to a minute to appear even on my DSL line. It works, but it's clunky.

Oh, and it only works in IE... Netscape collapses tables unless you put a single-pixel blank gif in every cell, and I haven't incorporated that into the program. I guess if I specified Height=1 Width=1 for one of the circular Blobs it might just show the transparent corner pixel, thus making it work in Netscape, but that would double both the size and loading time...

Peet, keep us posted if you find a way to make it work better. You're right, Twinkle's system only works on IE too. (I just tried to view them on Netscape and it didn't work.) Thanks for reminding me.

btw, Almighty Rob, that one should be allowed even in the body of a post, as there's no ban on e-mail addresses...

I've got one I used as a journal heading that still hasn't been removed, going on 11 hours now. One I used in the same thread moments later has been removed. Interesting. The one that remains is for a guitar tab site, whereas the one they removed was for Greenpeace dot org. The one they removed above was for a free speech site.

Almighty Rob, let us know if you get an e-mail about the removal of that e-mail address. If not, we should use the "Linda" button, as per the guidelines on the old Moderator Helpdesk page, to ask why it was removed, when e-mail addresses are supposed to be allowed in conversations! Is this yet another petty change in the rules, or just another example of their arbitary application...?

perhaps we should all swear off the yikes button forever, in threads or in entries. take an oath when we join?

Sorry, guys, but I don't think there's a loophole that we haven't already attempted. House Rules are clear about URLs in nicknames:
"Do not include any URLs in Conversation Postings or Nicknames, and only include suitable URLs in Guide Entries. We do not allow URLs to external websites to be included in Conversation Postings or Nicknames, but we do allow them in Guide Entries, so if you want to link (say) to your own personal website, please do so from your own Guide Entries, and preferably your Personal Space."
The best workaround I've come up with is if you give your email address and mention that the domain section of your email address is an interesting site to visit. For example [email protected] clues you in to an URL, yet should be acceptable to write here since it is in the format of an email address and the words in that email address are not offensive by themselves.

Subcom, you weren't here when it happened, but Almighty Rob changed the subject to an e-mail address. That was removed, even though it wasn't a URL...
