Have you noticed in the site rules and regulations ALL material on h2g2 is owned by the BBC. That means that if you write some work of genius while on h2g2 the BBC can rip it off and turn it into a tv program without your permission or any royalties. The phobia of the unpublished writer is true.

I hate the lack of URLs and I hate the lack of "common" langauge. I don't usually use either but it's the thought that counts. That is why I'm going to purposefully p**s someone off by listing innumerous swearing and URL's whcih could only be porn sites (I haven't bothered checking but come on, do you get interesting books for schools at [URL removed by moderator] I don't think so)

Well, Sick Bob, I hope that made you feel better, because then at least it will have served *some* purpose. The problem with doing that is that it's exactly that sort of posting which the unimaginitive suits at the BBC hold up (suitably edited) as an example of why they *must* keep the moderators here doing exactly what they're doing.

In the general scheme of things, that did a lot of f*****g good.

and they just straight up removed that other posting, it did go for a good 40 minutes without getting snatched. Looks like the moderators are speeding up thier responce time....used to be you could go for hours without them noticing...then again it could be just dumb luck lol

Okay okay, maybe I pushed the boundaries a bit with the word C*** (I added the stars myself this time.) But a point had to be made. Did anyone look up those pages during the 40 mins they were up for? I'd be interested to see what was in them.
That's the first time they've removed an ENTIRE posting of mine. They usually just star out the offensiveness but complete removal! We are truly living in a fascist state.

OK, I think I have an idea of what happened now, and I'd like to say that ranting about the moderators is a waste of time.

It's not their fault that the posts and entries are being removed, it's the BBC's. They're really in the same position as the original Italics - being employed by the BBC means that they have to follow the rules, whether those rules are ridiculous and oppressive or not.

Many of them agree with us, at least to some extent, as was shown by Peta's joining. Rants like this just alienate them and cause us problems, as was shown by Peta's leaving.

Keep it down guys. Remember who the bad guys are...

I'm sorry, I will never contain mindless swearing (maybe mindful swearing though?) or links to what could only be porn sites (I didn't bother checking, but what else would contain the words, anal and schoolgirl in the title!) in my forum postings. It probably did succeed in temporarily amusing a moderator bored with following BBC rules though.

I still think removing the "entire" posting was a bit of overkill. What's wrong with the phrase "Haddock slapper" or "Extrapolated Flange Magnet" Neither of these contained any swearing but were removed along with F***monkey and Sp***trumpet.

Oh well, back to the drawing board. I shall stop ranting now but I will still wear the title of a Zaphodista with pride.

Is "Belgium" a swear word? Good Lord, but it should be, shouldn't it!?

How odd. According the rules, swear words (which we can never see listed to know which ones they consider swear words) may show first and last letter with asterisks over all letters in between. So I'll be f****d if I can understand why you can write "f**k" but not f, followed by two asterisks, followed by "king".

Also, I guess this is just a regional anomaly, but I've seen the word "bitching" left unmoderated on h2g2 when it's used to mean complaining. This would have gotten me in trouble with my Ma a lot more heavily than using the word "b*****d" (child born out of wedlock). Not that I was stupid enough to swear around adults after first or second grade.

I would have thought that we could at least use the few words that have crept onto prime time television. The word for a pregnant female dog became acceptable on tv at least a decade ago in the U.S. Child born out of wedlock probably two or three decades ago. And "NYPD Blue," that wonderful pusher of envelopes, somehow introduced "a*****e" just in the last five years or so.

So what *is* the word for a female pregnant dog? I've asked the Ed team and they don't know either!

A female dog is a bitch (that word's allowed BTW) and a dog giving birth is whelping, but what's the word for a pregnant dog? Knocked up pup? Dog up the Duff?

My bad. I could have sworn that a bitch refered only to pregnant female dogs, or female dogs that had given birth at least once.

I just thought it was odd, by my local standards, that "bitch" would be found more acceptable than the word for a child born out of wedlock. But I realize standards differ, that h2g2 will reflect UK standards, so I'm just talking trivia here, not rallying for the right to call people b******s. (Could we get away with it if we were legitimately discussing types of swords, like how a cutlass is different from a bastard sword? Ask any Dungeons & Dragons afficianado, it's a real term.)

Anyhow, this is all off on a tangent from what Sick Bob wrote, which I don't particularly see as helping anything, and maybe a little misplaced for attacking the moderators when they don't have the authority to make the kinds of changes we want anyhow. He had good intentions for trying to show he doesn't like censorship, but I think our energy would be better focused on things like [prepare for a plug, spamming my own guide entry yet again---] THE PETITION FOR GREATER FREEDOM ON H2G2
