BBC - but not BBC.co.uk links

Post 1

Freddy, Keeper Of The Word "fnar!". Back from the Underworld.

Just a quick query - it's been bugging me a bit, I wasn't going to mention it, but I'm a pedantic type.

The House Rules state that links will be removed from conversations unless they point to bits of bbc.co.uk. There are other sites run by the BBC which aren't part of bbc.co.uk. I'm going to list the sites as I understand them -

beeb.com - I'm sure that as BBC employees, you'll know that Beeb is a sort of informal slang term for the BBC. A bit like Big Blue is for IBM.
bbcshop.com - possibly links to this site would fall under the "too commercial" heading, but still, it's a BBC site
bbcworldwide.com
bbcamerica.com
bbcprime.com
bbcresources.co.uk
bbctraining.co.uk
and even the domain radiotimes.co.uk is registered to the BBC.

Surely these should be okay to link to, because they are run by the BBC?

Also consider http://www.bbc.net.uk/h2g2/guide/
That's a BBC url which doesn't point to bbc.co.uk and should therefore not be allowed, even though it points to H2G2. What's the official stance on other BBC sites?

TIA,

Fred../

We don't link to commercial sites, even commercial BBC sites. I'm just checking out our official stance on each of these. Back shortly!

Okay

Here's the answer.

Links to BBC.net.uk are okay, they resolve themselves to pages on bbc.co.uk anyway.

None of the other links, including Beeb, bbcshop and radiotimes are allowed, because they're commercial links either blatently or because they provide an externally available service that may be bought.

Links to bbc.co.uk pages are all fine.

Okay? Hope this helps. Peta
