Their daughter was a preschooler at the time and would sleep in the car off and on the whole trip - she'd wake up and ask how many days they'd been driving in Texas....

When I was 3, my Dad got transferred out to California for 6 months. We drove there. It took a week ... but can you imagine it? My Dad and my brother (who was 5) in the front seat, and my Mom in the back seat sitting in between my sister (who was 2) and I.
My Mom says that her favorite memory was of my Dad standing out in the middle of the desert emptying a portable potty!
Needless to say, they sold the car and flew home!

Went down to Galway over the weekend to escape miserable weather and dysfunctional plumbing at home. A good time was had by all, but now I'm sleepy..
