First article in: airport check-in desk, which Mark then relegated when he took over, shortly before inviting be to become a sub. Odd, that (although I did have other entries accepted shortly afterwards).
I remember, ever one with a wry sense of humour, Mark giving me the Driving Etiquette article to deal with as part of my first batch. Ah well, in at the deep end as they say!

I didn't get an Official Entry for a while, as all my original entries were Complete And Utter Tosh. Maybe I should have joined the h2g2 Writing Team!
My first Official Entry was on Marmite, which made the Editor's Choice, and I was very proud indeed!
Instead of getting some sleep last night, like a normal, sensible person, I started thinking of all the changes h2g2 gone through since I registered - am I right in remembering there WAS NO GUIDE ML when it started?! Or a "Life | The Universe | Everything" quick index... or even a "DON'T PANIC" button?!
Oh, that's gone now. Anyway, it wasn't here in the first place...

There was a Don't Panic button, unless I'm very much mistaken...

Yes, well, my memory is a little hazy. I also seem to recall that this one time, Toadfish Rebbeci put all this polystyrene packaging into the airconditioning system as a joke, but it just caught fire, and he was nearly expelled.
Oh, no, wait... that was 'Neighbours', wasn't it? Never mind.

Well now, it's a very fine line between a practical joke and dangerous tomfoolery. You could probably get expelled from h2g2 for doing the same thing.

That echo's come back again.

I've run into that a few times today, too.
Jimi: You're blaming it on the glasses? You had your Groucho Marx glasses on, right?

I've got a pair of perscription sunglasses I wear when playing sports that are 11 years old. They make it impossible to see the ball. Great fun when playing softball.
Or reading the Guide.
They're Wayfarers and tres cool. I love 'em, even if they're helping me go rapidly blind.

The drummer from pop-punk trio Green Day is called Trey Cool, you know.
What happens when you try to read h2g2 in Goo when wearing sunglasses?! You just have to squint a lot?

Hmmm... could the moderators moderate out the echo? or typos? *looks dangerously thoughtful*
My first approval, apart from WOTD, was Durham Cathedral... but I had to wait ages for editors choice... however one of my alter egos' first entry made editor's choice first time, I was jealous...

Wouldn't it have been funny if someone had struck up a conversation with your alter ego without realising it was you?

Anonymouse Posted Mar 8, 2001
-apart- from WOTD? Oh my.. now you're asking the difficult questions...
*scampers off*
*returns* Odd.. WOTD now isn't showing here, either.. though I'm sure the site was up because I added to a posting there and was perusing the words list.
Anyway, apart from that was Mudpies and then three more collaborative efforts.

Thought that rang a bell -- that's one of the ones I edited. Hope I was gentle, seeing as it was your first!

Remember when there was only goo to choose from? Remember life before Peer Review.
And what about thefuture. When we had our meet here we joked that in 20 years time we would have to hire a stadium and we would be able to say "We were at the first meet.... way back in 2000."
*mumbles incoherently about Entries she intends to write*
Why do I get Error 404 when I click a link for the procrastinator's society? 'Shouldn't it just be the normal "pending moderation"link?

I rather liked the 'before peer review' thing.. Not that I dislike having a peer review, I think it's a wonderful idea, but it makes it a bit more awkward-feeling to submit your own entries. There's also the thing about writing an entry and not wanting it to become part of the 'official' guide. Though I suppose when the discussion thread is moved to the article any entry by the author stating such would be enough to terminate the process. Of course, that's ass-u-me'ing that the author even realizes his page is being discussed.

There's no reason not to know somebody is discussing your page. With the notify me of conversations thingie.
Remember how long we all clamoured for that one?
Sniff, I miss the fields...
