I would like to write an entry about psychonauts although, since their activities are not always legal, would I therefore be breaking the house rules?
I could of course write the entry and see if it gets removed but asking this question may save me a lot of time and effort.

You would have to be very careful about how it's written, but done the right way it could be acceptable.
For instance:
Writing about something illegal isn't the same thing as writing about how to do something illegal (the first might be okay, the second would definitely not). Likewise, writing about someone who does something illegal isn't the same writing that the reader should go out and try it. Again, the first might be okay, the second isn't.
So long as you're not explaining 'how to' or condoning such activity you will *probably* be okay. I think the only way to know for sure if what you have in mind will pass muster is to write it and submit it. You could write up a rough draft of what you want to include and maybe run it through the Writing-Workshop for some opinion before putting a lot of intense work into it.

Best advice would be, AFAIK, to keep it as scientific as possible, submit it and not be surprised if it can't make the frontpage.
It all depends on how the entry is written.
