A Conversation for h2g2 House Rules

Far be it for me to carp, but Rules are Your Rules!!?

Vaughan Prefect, (Minister for Cheese Appreciation and Time Travel)

Im not a fan of this faffing around malarky. Its going to take time to adjust to having people poking around in our lovingly created work... But hypocracy is a step beyond the fringe... and i quote from the BBC/ H2G2 House rules Vol. 1:-

" ...it is acceptable to include general contact details for companies, for example, but you must only include publicly available details, such as the address of a restaurant,"

Why therefore have the moderators thrown their own rule book out and moderated two of my entries on Bars(A403903 & A403921) removing both the address and telephone number of the establishment? In any professional publications, for Example 'Class' and 'Theme' magazines, reviews of bars and restaurants always include contact information. I feel it is entirely in the nature of the guide, the spirit and style of the article and fairness that these be included with the entry, particularly as it sticks to the letter of Moderator Law. No explanation or apology is required, just the return of said, very public, information.

Merky Buckets,

VP.

You can let Peta know about any complaint about moderation (the moderators are still learning, although I don't know how long that excuse will last it is clearly valid ATM).

I think some clarity and additional guidelines may be needed (perhaps not as part of the house rules which are already quite long but as explanatory notes in a separate article). It is easy to think of examples where the rules are unclear. Yours is one. Another relates to reviews.

I am allowed to review a book, film etc. and presumably don't have to be 'balanced' in those views (i.e. I might genuinly like something and strongly recommend it). However it is a fact that books, films etc are commercial products[1]. So can I write a review of a different type of commercial product, say a [Company X, Brand Y] vaccum cleaner and similarly recommend it?

[1] Not to deny that they can also be works of art.

Z (Still feeling reasonably hopefull that sensible moderation rules will emerge once the new system is bedded in.)

There's a whole new forum set up at http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/Moderation-HelpDesk where we will look at individual moderations.

Hope this helps.

Mark
