Luli - eternal dreamer: don't disturb the fluffy pink clouds

Hi all,

I've just got engaged smiley - loveblush and my fiance and I both want to lose weight - we're too fond of eating well and too fond of the red wine! My weight has gone up and down intermittantly over the years and I've tried every diet under the sun, some which have worked and some which were terribly trying.

I'm currently trying to eat healthily and am even eating breakfast but can't seem to shift it. My fiance is a postie and starts early so doesn't eat in the mornings, which means he tends to snack through the day - usually on the wrong things, of course! As I work ten hours a day (in a sedentary job) we find it hard to exercise together (and a forty-minute lunch break, stuck out in the countryside, isn't exactly ideal for a dieter.)

I'm in need of support. I'm about to start a new plan based on exercising in the mornings and eating lots of extrememly healthy things, but I'm sure the lure of the pizzas will overcome me sometimes, so I would love a bit of help and advice. smiley - smiley

kelli - ran 2 miles a day for 2012, aiming for the same for 2013

Hi Lou, welcome to the losers forum smiley - smiley

I too am engaged and trying to lose some weight - although I've been reducing for a couple of years now. The wedding is giving me the motivation for a final push to reach my target though. It is nice that you and your fiance are going to try together, mine is stick thin and it is a constant battle to get enough calories into him to stop him getting any smaller!

Most of the chatting here goes on on the 'Saturday Weight loss' thread, come and say hello there. There are quite a few of us trying to reduce a bit, and this place is great for support when you feel a bit poo and also to celebrate when things are going well - glad to have you on board smiley - biggrin

When is your wedding and how much do you want to lose?

The wedding is in late 2006. My ultimate goal is to get into a pair of trousers which I once fitted into, many moons ago! They're sitting in my wardrobe. My mother came up the other day and said "You've still got the Trousers of Shame, then?" smiley - laugh
I have to admit that trying to diet with someone else is easier. We have our bad days too, when the lure of the takeaway gets too much, but at least now it's a small chicken kebab (with loads of salad and no sauce) instead of my fiance bringing in fried pizza and chips like he used to! (what can I say - I'm Scottish - we'll fry anything.)

Well congratulations on your engagement smiley - biggrin Sounds like you have got a couple of years to get back into the trousers of shame - I'm sure you will do it!

I've lost 80 lb so far, and have about another 30 to go, which I'd like to shift before my august wedding. I need to be ordering my dress in January so I'd like to get a stone off by then - so not looking forward to christmas!

What have you been doing to lose weight so far, other than avoiding fried pizza smiley - yikes I'm doing the slimming world diet at the moment as that has worked for me in the past - it hasn't been too successful this time but have only been going for a couple fo weeks, will give it a month to see if it is going to work. Doing tons of exercise too smiley - groan It makes me feel a lot better but it isn't always easy to motivate myself to go...

Here, have some smiley - cheesecake - no calories in this one smiley - winkeye The worst thing is trying to cut down on the smiley - redwine

You can call me TC

Can you still remember which diets worked and which ones didn't? We'd be interested to hear about your experiences there.

I'm drinking lots of water and green tea at the moment; trying to avoid any processed food, and I've started going swimming in the mornings.

Diets that have worked in the past were Atkin's (but I really don't recommend it, as it is a hassle... and I do so love my fruit). I lost a lot of weight on a purely vegetarian diet last year when I was strapped for cash and couldn't justify the expense of meat (or much else really smiley - erm)

Basically the only thing which worked for me long-term was daily yoga sessions, green tea, and eating sensibly (but allowing myself the occasional treat.) I have a long way to go to get back to that level again.
