DO:
If you need to post several lines (for technical help), change your nick to |
Lurk (stay in the room for a while to get the feel if you're new)
Respect the ops (in some clients, these are the people with @ in front of their names)
Use the right room. Choose the one closest to what you need
Watch out for newbie-haters. Some channels, such as #mozillazine are friendly, others have people who think they own the place.
Offer help to others.
DON'T:
u53 4@x0r 7@1k - A477335
Post off-topic URLs - your Windows site is OK in #win2000, but won't please #flowerArranging
Only post your URL - include it as part of the conversation.
Repeatedly say the same thing
Overuse /me
Ask to be made op
Say something off-topic, unless the conversation has drifted
Try to start arguments
Insult people
Overuse the bots

Very good points as well - and can be adapted for h2g2 - but this Netiquette page is only really about posting in h2g2. All the same, as I said, these points can be adapted to mean h2g2 postings...
If you haven't already, I'd advise you to write an article about IRC - you seem to know it!
