I still can't think about CB radio without remebering that spoof of convoy that DLT did - Plastic Chicken, wasn't that his handle?

hi beatrice
-
that was just one song, the one about the child whos father died in a truck accident, and all the truckers come to take him out all day long
-
there as been two films on the subject.
-
something i didnt put in the entry was that in about 1984-5, the taxi-driver and his mates from the bradfored taxis, all where outside my house, and having coffee, the town ranks where empty lol.
-
they all come to see how my sister was, and a lady across the road came to see if one would take her to town, as there was a least 40 in the streets around, i even had to borrow sugar, tea, milk and cups from freinds nearby, smiley - dragon jim

Loved them both smiley - musicalnote

Used to pick up CB radio broadcasts (local) on our normal radio occasionally. Very odd. Don't hear much about it these days.

hi websailor
-
the local taxis, as they are mostly asian drivers here, used it as a way of chatting in their own language, some still have it
-
the radio ham tok a lot of the older ones, as the two part test came more easier to do.
-
i had a uniden 200, with starduster at first, then i got a storker9, sidebander, and would spend most of the night on with germany, france and if a sunspot was on, to australia, china, japan. those where the days smiley - dragon jim

Being very amerocentric, I didn't realise ya'll had CB in the UK.

My mum still has a Bearcat scanner on her kitchen counter. A co-worker of mine carrys a portable tranceiver/scanner to work. She keeps it tuned to the emergency crystal.

I used to know a bunch of guys with Hallicrafters and twenty meter aerials. Shortwave was very popular here in Texas and back home in Illinois thirty years ago. In some places you couldn't even get more than two AM stations before dark. And TV reception was impossible without cable.

hi t r ,
-
in the 1970,s we had the illegal 19 channel am, and it would play havoc with certain things, so the 40 channel fm 27megs came out in 1982.
-
i took to it like a duck to water, with a uniden200, with starduster on the roof.
-
it wasnt long before i was repairing mikes, and putting the extra two channels on, that where for the, ch 12 and 13 high band.
-
for this i would charge £10 or £15 if an extra switch had to be added to the casing.
-
before i gave up, i was using a storker9, and a star2000 with a 10k shift. over 10,000 channels.
-
