Why separate categorise for male and female performers? Surely we can do without this in the 21st century. You dont have a two categories one for best famle director and one for best makle director do you/
That said the Eltons arent a bad idea it will certainly generate debate and we can have some meanigful/heated debates about who and WHY they won what.

Yeah just falling in line with all the old shool paternalistic ways of dishing out film awards.
This way we get to dish out an extra Elton for an extra performer!

Busy.
Trying to develope teams for the women and girls, keeping the youth, junior and minis going while attempting to stay fit and play myself. Ive got an RFU course to do an NVQ for work and a new learning scheme to incorporate for the students. We've got increased demand for school and community coaching I have to schedule....and Ive just moved into a new place with the girlfirend.
I dont actually have time to think how I'am, but its better than being bored.
Im not on here much lately you're more likely to see me on facebook.
Good work on the awards its always nice to come back here and read about some culture beyond the facebook stuff.
Easy Ferrettbro.

There's nothing wrong with having separate awards for men and women in *acting* roles. It speaks of how they have to communicate their masculinity or femininity, or ambiguity if appropriate. We wouldn't pit Nicole Kidman's role in The Hours against Sean Penn's in Milk on the basis that Sean Penn could easily portray a bipolar authoress, nor Nicole a campaigner for gay rights in San Francisco.
The fact is men and women are different, and roles they are given in films are accordingly so. Otherwise there would invite a battle of the sexes in Best Actor nominations. We had a woman last year, he's really challenging the notions of manhood, she's been nominated 5 times already. She's a Nazi, he's a homosexual, She's the Queen, he's a sociopath Oil Baron.
It's no less reasonable than separate awards for Rap and Folk music, when we're talking about ROLES.

No its stupid and sexist, it is not reasonable it is arbitrary and only serves the purpose of perpetuating gender stereotypes in an industry where they are pretty much meaningless.
For 20 years the leading roles in a one of the worlds most popular shows has been voiced by a female though the character happens to be male.
In times gone by every performer on the stage was male.

I said it before but people whose opinion seemed to be based upon gossip mags disagreed: real actresses refer to themselves as actors in their own circles.
Key: Complain about this post
