A Conversation for Constitution of the United States of America
28th Amendment

It is difficult to amend the Constitution. The document was meant to be amended, but it was only with a lot of debate and consideration.
Every year amendments to the Constitution are purposed. Here are some of the well known purposed amendments.
Equal Rights Amendment - Giving women and men completely equal rights.
Balanced Budget Amendment - This would require that the total government outlays will be less than the total government income. Purposed amendments generally had provisions for exceptions during time of war. They occasionally included a requirement for a 60% vote in both houses of Congress to raise taxes.
Flag Burning Amendment - This would allow Congress to outlaw the desecration of the American flag.
Some people are calling for the abolishment of the Electoral College. This too would require an amendment to the Constitution.
Personally, I would like to see the repeal of the 17th Amendment.
What do you think the 28th Amendment should be?

Warning: what follows is sarcasm.
I've always been fond of the idea of an amendment making marksmanship a requirement for graduation. From anything. Nursing school. Teacher's college. Police academy. Medical School. High School.
I've also been fond of the idea of an amendment reinforcing the 2nd.
I am not happy that I will probably spend the rest of my life seeing the same arguments over and over again repeating the same dreck they've been spouting since l963.
and then there's that little one about the lawyers that has been tickling in my brain for years. I think they should be barred from the legislatures and from public office outside the judiciary.
As, I believe, Gladstone said,"There are two things one should not watch the making of; sausages and laws."

Wow, someone finally uncovered this old thread.
There is a growing movement to bring gun safety and shooting back into the schools. There was a shooting club when I went to high school. Tomorrow, the sheriff's office will be teaching Junior Deputy in my wife's sixth grade class. One of the subjects that they cover is gun safety.
Are you familiar with the missing amendment? I think it's the 16th or the 13th Amendment. It was something to the effect that anyone claiming an aristocratic title, such as esquire, was barred from public office.

No. I'm not. I've done more reading about the personalities behind the continental congress and the Articles and the Constitution than I have about the document itself.
In fact my two favorite american documents right now are Geo. Washington's 'Farewell Address' (thank you mssrs madison and adams) and Calvin Coolidge's Autobiography.
I have a seen a list of silly proposed amendments over the years but I seem to have misplaced it.

According to the fringe right, the 16th Amendment that we now have is bogus. It was supposed to be this other one about the claiming of titles by Americans.

The 'fringe right'. Oh, the people who are keeping the 'Turner diaries' in print?
Key: Complain about this post
