This is an excellent argument... can appreciation be taught!??
Interest is key to curiousity and learning... You have to have some self-investment before you can appreciate anything...
But in being taught, you need to be willing to learn... right!??
Appreciate learning to be taugh appreciation!??
I've taken piano, oboe, color guard(choreography and flag/rifle skills), guitar, sign language, oil painting, creative writing, humanities, and general art... not necessarily in that order.... but an appreciation, a passion... was all ready there(surprised that a lover of liberal arts began a Musehome!?? hhee hee heeh eee...)!!!
::hugs her liberal arts::

Ah, a Hockey bar here at the Guide. I Love the place. I come as a Hard Core Colorado Avalanche fan. I hope that this will not make me a recluse. I see the the picture of the King, Patrick Roy and the championship banner. After losing to your Yotes and then Vancouver we still have a good season tho. Too bad we lost a couple of people from the last game. I hope they get better soon. I have to ask a question to those assembled however. Doy ou think that the crack down on slashing is causing more cases of "diving" this season? To further explain, there seems to be a lot more people making noises when they get a little slash. While I think that it is not in good sportsmanship, slashing is part of hockey. I see a lot of players that will say audibly "ouch" or something when they are brushed by a stick. This seems to me as a dive, the same as falling down on purpose if it makes it look like a trip.

Not having watched a gamethis season, but ALSO A BIG AVALANCHE FAN(Go us, Marv!!), I don't have a great deal to say...
But I must agree that team players in any sport will be known to exaggerate an issue just to win a game(which is disgusting, but also proof that the players are-- HUMAN!!!)... poo poo... it makes it a bit more interesting to watch, unless you are a BRONCOS fan and the other team is a really poopy team like the Raiders or the Packers... and they get rewarded for their childish behavior!!!
YEAH!!! So there!!!
Finally, I must add: GOOOO AVS!!!
It snowed yesterday and it looks wonderful out here, not far from Denver, this morning... must be a good omen for the boys...

An interesting argument I made there. I was really just hoping that I wasn't talking out of an oriface other than the one with resident vocal cords. Let us say this. Interest first---then study---then appreciation. All three "chords" should be followed in ernest, with passion or the results will just not be fully realized. So no, appreciation cannot be taught. The lessons for realization can be taught but interest must be there first. O.K. , is that nice and pat? Does anyone else have thier two cents to put in?

No one is a recluse here at the Corner. By being a hockey fan, you are, in some shape, in a minority (really it depends on where you are from--I'm in Kentucky, and thou we have a minor league team, the Throuroblades; down on the farm with the Sharks, Denver has a broader fan base thanks to the Av's, my second favorite team, than does Central Kentucky and Lexington. I would imagine that Ottawa, Toronto, and other points Canadian would also have a broader fan base---and football, baseball, and basketball doesn't distract them as much. i wish I was a canuck.) . Slashing and whining and obstruction and the crackdown. With a leauge that has grown in leaps and bounds in the past 10 years, these problems are just a natural outgrowth of the expansion. Sooner or later (hopefully the former) these problems will be resolved. The best we can do is to sit back, relax and enjoy the game. I remember railing on Brett Hull's Cup "whinning" goal for at least the better part of that summer. Then came acceptance.

This really is a lovely spot, Skylion!
I'd have to agree with you about the three steps to appreciation, although I have seen a rare few who skip the middle step.
I also should say that I'm an Avs fan, but don't hold the Yotes victory against you personally.

Hey, as I said the Av'a are my second favorite team, right behind the Coyotes. So I fully support them. Unless of course they play the Dogs. And everyone saw how that went at the Cross Purposes. Thank you for your compliments, Seven, I will always try to improve on the decor as we go. And anyone is free to bring stuff in to decorate as they will. Nothing crude, I run a respectable basement.
Skipping the middle step is a rare thing indeed. "Maybe she's just born with it...."

Re: Diving - For what it's worth, when I saw that Anaheim/LA game, and Anaheim was trailing, I clearly saw two incidences of diving performed by Anaheim players. Both were successful. Both times I yelled out "Penalty on number xx, Anaheim, two minutes for bad acting." I didn't notice any Anaheim fans disagreeing with me. Not that it mattered, since both penalties were effectively killed off. Still, perhaps that time could have been used to produce another LA goal, preventing overtime. You don't want to give away free points to a divisional rival.

That is what I feel about it as well. I have sincere doubts that the crack down on slashing will last more than the season with the way players are diving. While I do not want to see a major injury, what was once common stick work is now a peanalty offense and should be tolerated. At least the season is in full swing now. I just have to wait for tonight to see another game. By the way, for all you poor suckers like me who work during games, if you have internet access NHL.com has a pretty good game cast. Not as good as watching the action, but nearly so.

If you find a beatles posters with the boys in hockey gear, more power to you. No, please the place is huge so just tell me where you want to put a few and I will let ya.
As for make-up. My wife doesn't wear any and she is the most beautiful person in the world to me. Sure an a media biased, national Playboy gawking, supermodel stutting world, she may be average. But reality is getting to know someone. Thier heart is where the love is. Besides I am alergic to most makeups. Even the hypoallergenic stuff.

not much to reply to,just that I agree. Skill level is diluted with the demand for more players. But still, coaches need to step up and get the most out of thier players.

The basement is open and should draw a crowd. The Kings are about to drop the puck. See it over at the New blurb.

I'm just a lowly Flyers fan that happened to stop by here...
I have a small rant. Thank God Eric "Big $%^&#@* Whiny Baby" Lindros is gone! If only Bobby and the boys had ditched him for Primeau instead of Brind'Amour, the team would be alright today. I haven't been able to watch one of their games since the season began, they suck soooooo badly so far this season. Although last season started out the same way. As the Rev. Jesse Jackson says:
"KEEP HOPE ALIVE!"
Thank you. By the way, Skylion, I'm in a little bit of a geographical mixup myself. I live in Missoula, Montana, but root for the Flyers, not the Avs. I used to be an Oilers fan until Zelly went to Philly and Billy Guerin stopped doing anyting noteworthy.
Key: Complain about this post
