Thank you, it took me days to get the pattern just right for the floor. Fogrive me if i have delayed talking. I was concentrating on getting my Sub-Etha working (bad signal). Are you listening in perchance? There are plenty of listening posts around the Corner. Just for you Saint, There is a Stanley Cup Champions 95-96 banner on the West wall just for the Av's, along with a BIG poster of the all time winningest goalie Patrick Roy. the dogs are up 1 to zip on a Brad May goal.

Oleg Tverdozsky, a former 'yote, now a Duck, just tied up the game one all. With that, I may just collapse.

First tell me what you think you know. I suggest that we do this while a game is on the Sub-Etha, that way I can give you examples as they happen.

"High Sticking is bringing the stick to shoulder level with one or both hands and using it to force the skater
either off the play or prevent him from making a play." - Umm... actually, I think you're talking about cross-checking there. That's when they hold the stick at about shoulder level and push out with it, for the intentions you mentioned. High sticking is when the stick makes contact with someone *above* shoulder level. It's 2 minutes for incidental contact, a 4 minute double-minor if it causes injury, and a 5 minute major or a match penalty if it looks deliberate, I believe. It's also a penalty if you touch the puck with a high stick, but nobody does time in the box. The play is simply whistled dead and a faceoff ensues, or, if the high stick results in a goal (like one overtime winner for Phoenix in LA last year that should have been overturned... stupid refs!!), the goal is overturned.

Colonel Sellers, I stand corrected. Thank you for clearing that up for both myself and for all looking on. Sometimes those two do confuse me, and I say I will teach people. Mostly what I want to teach is an apprciation of the game of Hockey. There are far to few fans out there for such a great sport.

Perfectly understandable, since the rules are so complex, and so not obvious to the casual observer. I think the most off-putting part of the game is the offsides, icing, and two-line pass rules. The casual observer sees random stops of play for inexplicable reasons, and this is why people tune it out. Once you know why those rules are in place, you get a definite appreciation for the flow and the skill involved. When I introduce someone to the game, the first thing I do is explain the lines on the ice and their purposes. I let the rest take care of itself... people can appreciate a high sticking or a goalie interference call readily, and you do get some explanation from the PA announcer.

I suppose I am qualified to teach the game, since I did give a presentation on it to my speech class. It was while researching the speech that I finally found out what cross-checking was all about. Luckily for me, the LA Kings have outstanding learning resources right on their website. smiley - smiley

As for far too few fans... I'm not too sure. The Ducks are having abysmal attendence this year, but it was quite a boon for me. I didn't have any trouble getting good seats to watch my Kings beat them in overtime. In fact, I would venture to guess that there were more Kings fans in attendence than Ducks fans. smiley - smiley

Titania: Hi yourself. smiley - smiley It has been a long time. I found myself a victim of a phenomenon on H2G2 that I didn't think would exist... hanging out in a forum that was TOO popular. I log in and out at various intervals throughout the day, and it became simply too difficult to catch up with happenings at the Atelier. So, unfortunately, until they manage to drive away some of their other occupants smiley - winkeye, I won't be able to participate. Still, H2G2 is big, and now we've found a little corner that isn't so busy, yes?
