The first ever hockey game I attended was a Salt Lake Golden Eagles game at the old Salt Palace, now a memory. Rick Chernomaz was the captain and he became my favorite player after a simple gesture. I was at the game a few hours early to watch the skaters practice, Chernomaz flipped me a puck over the glass when he noticed me. Because of that, I became a huge hockey fan. I guess I have him to thank for my love of the game.
Sky, I notice that our respective teams are going at it again tonight. Good Luck and may the best team win!

This is going to be such a good game! I'm really looking forward to it.
Tai Chi is a lovely martial art, Sky. I'm sure that you'll enjoy it very much. Meditative arts, like Tai Chi and Yoga, are one of the best ways to connect with your spiritual nature, IMHO. I do Yoga several times a week and just love it. It's my time for myself and I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Marv, and Seven, thanks for the stories. Marv, I wish that something as cool as that would have happened to me when I was young. Seven, I wouldn't trade my T'ai Chi for anything either. Well except for the fact that I can't get a sitter for my kids cause my wife cannnot get off for work on those nights. So I traded for that. Trying to get back. But I still keep up with the KiGong breathing excersises and I have about a 12 move rythmn for T'ai Chi that i also perform. So even thou i haven't learned anything new, i try to keep up with the old.
The game will be a close one. I see a tie, or the Coyotes by 1 goal. Phx has been able to ice 4 good lines, Col has the first two, but beyond they have to stretch. so let's see the Av's prove me wrong.

Mostly I hope to see somethig better than 49 shots with no goal like last time. You have a good netminder but last game he was just standing on his head. I thought it was a great performance and one that I hoppe he cannot reproduce tonight Nothing personal of course.

this is going to be an interesting game. I really hope it goes to a tie for a couple of reasons. I like that both teams get a point, and I want to see a very long unbeaten streak.

Sorry Marv, I want the Dogs to crush the Av's here. They just came off a dissapointing road trip and they need the boost of another two points here. Gotta stay competative in the West ya know.

The Kings just came off of several days' rest (much needed after that brutal opening that had them on the road for 12 of 16 games) and handed out a 5-1 spanking to the Islanders, which extends their unbeaten streak to 7 games (5-0-2). Next up... the Avalanche, tomorrow night. Looks like the Avs are playing all the toughest teams at exactly the wrong time, what with all those injuries. Still, they're a talented team, and they'll be able to weather it. Meanwhile, these are the times that try fans' souls...

And I still like the number of points the Av's have On to the next game!

To everyon that posted after me. Looks like we all got what we wanted, so all in all a perfect evening last night. As always send everyone a line when you want to use the Corner, it's always open and I never seem to leave. I just fall asleep on the comfy couches. BTW, I got a catalog form the NHL the other day. In it they had a goalie helmet and fleece jersey for kids available for all teams. The price was only twenty bucks, I went GAGA. Then I looked at the fine print. "Not intended for protective use" GRRRR.

It's an interesting matchup we have here this afternoon in LA. Patrick Roy is of course Patrick Roy, who recently secured his name in the record books again. Meanwhile, on the other side of the ice, Jamie Storr has been named one of the three hottest players by ESPN.com, and was just promoted to #1 goalie, meaning he will keep the starting job when Fiset comes back from injury.
Taking this all into consideration, why are there more sirens going off than since the Rodney King riots?
Through two periods, the score is 5-4 Los Angeles. LA is hitting it with their big guns... Luc Robitaille has loosened the floodgates on his scoring drought, notching two goals and two assists already. Ziggy is getting it done as well, with two goals and one assist. The other goal was scored by rookie defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky, who is looking VERY good for a rookie so far this year. On the other side of the ice, the Avs are showing some real depth. Their goals are scored by Aaron Miller, Jon Klemm, Ville Nieminen, and Alex Tanguay. Who the hell are these people??

And, at least on the scoreboard, we had a quiet third period. From my perspective that is the best possible outcome. Nelson Emerson picked up an empty-netter for the only goal of the period, and the Kings win it 6-4, extending their unbeaten streak to eight games, while the Avs endure back-to-back losses for only the second time this season. It looks like the Avs did evereything except win... they outshot the Kings 47-22. Sakic's scoring streak ended as Luc's scoring drought ended. And Roy... well, I guess he wasn't very sharp. 4 goals on 7 shots in the second? In his defense, 3 of those four came on the power play, which was on fire for LA in this game. At one point in the game, LA had a 5-3 advantage. They quickly scored, then scored again on the ensuing 5-4 advantage.
How good has Lubomir Visnovsky been? Here's a little tidbit from ESPN.com's game recap: "Visnovsky began the day as the NHL's only player with at least 10 points _ and a plus-minus rating that is higher than his point total. He currently is plus-13 with three goals and 10 assists." In this game, he notched the goal and two assists. However, the scoreboard has him listed as -2 on the day. Here's a question... if the other team scores 4 goals total, and you have three points, how the hell can you go -2??
