Wow.
This is the sort of thing I'd always thought we'd find at h2g2.

My heartiest congratulations to Pinniped and nadia for this full meal deal. And of course to the UG-lies for finding and promoting it and to the h2g2 editors for allowing such UG-liness to flourish in their anals.
smiley - cheers

Never prouder than in your praise, Sir.

Though I feel very pleased with this collaboration, I'm the minor partner here, basically grafting together four episodes and half a dozen fragments left by nadia.

I hope she comes back soon. She's awesome.

Came here via a link on the front page.

Can't say enough how impressed I am, or how much the story sucked me in, like the painting does its observers. Absolutely riveting.

Thanks. This is pretty much my proudest collaboration.
As already said though, the big ideas and strongest prose here are nadia's.

Yes, I saw this on the Front Page, clicked on it even though I didn't have any idea what it was about, and was very glad I did...

I know of the Fairy-Feller's Master Stroke via being a Queen Fan http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7-9eAal_x4 but sadly when I went to the Tate Gallery a few years ago, especially to see it, the painting wasn't on display so I never saw it in real life. I have a poster, but it doesn't allow appreciation of the actual texture of the painting, which sounds incredibly rich from the description here...

I second what Trillian's Child said - riveting indeed...

Thanks. And you really should see it if you get the chance.

I've seen it just twice since I knew it's story, once while the piece was coming together and once more about a year after it was finished.

I won't go to see it again, because I want to preserve the way I feel about it now. Maybe a painting as powerful as this one would not diminish through familiarity, but I won't take the chance.
