Maw, the author has kindly given permission for this article to be put up for Peer Review.

The Article is excellent in my opinion. Giving a good background to this long rolling epic without giving away any true spoilers to the story (not easy). As a fan of the series I'd love to see this enter the official guide.

Elsewhere MaW claims to be Mistress of the Novices at a WOT fandom site. Make of that what you will smiley - winkeye Kinky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! smiley - devil

Where is everyone then? Evidently my Entry's not very interesting. Did you know I'd actually forgotten I'd written it? It's all those editions of MaW's Musings filling up my Entries list that's the problem.

oh, i accidentaly lost my reply, it might turn up later, but i'll post again.

nice one, as usual.

only one niggle, even though I've read the first 6 of these i still found the first paragraph under the heading 'background' to be reallt difficult to get through. can you break it up a bit into idiot chunks before carrying on. the rest of it's fine, but the first bit needs a running jump.

what do you mean, it's getting no attention. there was loads of attention at the bottom of the article.

toodles for now, wasnt buffy good!

Hi all. Look, I liked this entry, but came away with the idea that it was written by a fan, and wasn't entirely balanced.

I gave up on WoT around book 8, feeling that Jordan was just stringing out a fairly standard idea out beyond its worth for the sake of yet another book. I don't know whether it was book 7 or 8, but he used up about 400 pages just to get some bickering women from the bottom of a hill to the top of a hill. That's just taking the p***.
Also, he blatantly rips off more talented authors - Frank Herbert in particular. He's cloned the Fremen from Dune and called them Aeil, and done the same for the Bene Geserit, calling them Aes Sedai. I went to the Wot site, and in his defence it stated that the similarities were caused by the two authors using the same reference material. It sates that Herbert used "The Israelites and the Zulu" as reference for the Fremen, and that Jordan used the "Zulu and the Israelites". What it doesn't mention is that Jordan also had the opportunity to read and use characters from Dune as well.

Sorry if this comes across a bit bitter, but the first few books are quite good, or passable at any rate, and then when you get further in you find you've wated a good few days of your life on this stuff. Perhaps you should put a warning in, or at least balance it out with a praise and criticism section.

Yours,
Frogbit.

I personally got rather disappointed by the book 8 in particular but 7, 8 and 9 in general but I think this is down to the wait I've had to endure before I get to read them.

I know someone who started the WOT when 8 books were completed and found them *all* very good.

BTW, I recently recommended an entry on David Eddings. I *hate* those books but I still recommended the entry as it was a good entry on a popular series of books. Just cos you don't like the series it doesn't make this article bad.

I read the first 4 books in a fortnight and loved them. I then had to wait while the library bought 5 and 6. I read these two a year or so later and didnt like them as much. when i found out how long it would be before 7 came out i gave up. i think if i were to have discovered them when all were published i might have made it to the end and enjoyed them all. but the direction and the style of writing were so different in the first few books that it really gave little hint as to where it was all headed, (cos RJ didn't know if he'd get to write them all of course).

to be fair to MaW (and i have to be cos he is bigger than me) this article is more of an infomercial rather that a review. but i can see no harm in adding a 'some people think this bit is crap' section

I hope no-one thought I said the Entry was bad - it isn't. It is well presented and well written. I read 1 - 8 in a row and was disappointed. I think the 'infomercial' description was quite accurate, as no bad points are mentioned. I think a 'Why you would want to read these books' and a 'Why you would not want to read these books' section would balance the whole thing out.
IMHO, of course.

MaW,

This entry has been recommended *so* many times by several scouts (smiley - biggrin), but I've not accepted it yet as you said you need to do more work on it...

Is this still the case?

Thanks to you all for your hard work and I hope that MaW didn't get lost on the way back from the meet...

Yes Ashley, it's still the case, and thanks for holding off on it! I have been busy, but I will make some modifications right now and let people know so they can check them over before you let a Scout recommend it.
