Hi BigAl,

This is really fascinating. smiley - ok

I see that your entry mentions three conjunctions:
>>what the Magi actually saw was a rare conjunction of the planets Jupiter and Saturn when the planets came together three times<<

and the linked to entry for 'Star of Bethlehem' lists two:
"Such a conjunction between Jupiter and Saturn is rare, but happened not once but twice in the year 7 BC."

Assuming prof Hughes is correct, you might want to initiate an update to the Star of Bethlehem entry.

These two phrases jumped out at me:

>>to work out what it was that the Magi actually saw 2000 years ago<<

and later

>>believes that what the Magi actually saw was<<

Since the existence of the Magi is speculative, I'd suggest replacing "actually saw" in each case with "would have seen"

Btw, could you give the greek word (either with its english spelling or in the greek alphabet) that has been translated as "diligently"? I'm just curious.

Excellent smiley - applause

smiley - ok paily. I have been searching for that Gk word, but without success. I've included it because it was mentioned in a sermon given by the Bishop of Durham last year, and available online. I decided he was sufficiently authoritative to use. I'll keep searching on that. I have asked Gnomon to update some aspects of 'Star of Bethlehem'.

Dr Hell

Really nice one BigAl...

But just because I am feeling very nitpicky... here's one:

"Scholars now believe that the wise men were, in fact, priests of Zoroastrianism, the main religion of the Persian empire."

in fact?

...just remove the "in fact" and we're good smiley - winkeye

Very very cool Entry!
