SLEEP - How much do you need

How does that work then ?does the acupuncture target the specific areas you are massaging or do they deal with different areas ?
I have never come across Tui Na it sounds an interesting combination*makes note to find out more*

Acupuncture deals with the body being its own macrocosim, in western medicine we veiw each organ in its singular state, the body as a whole being unbalanced as a result of something not working properly. We do not differentiate between a sick organ and a sick preson. Holistic like Dirk Gently "Why does a butterfly flapping its wings in India affect the course of a hurricane in Miami?"
That is why you may find that for back pain you may also get needles in your hands and ankles

Have used acupuncture for insomnia as well, only go to GP if I need a doctor's certificate. I am very biased about western medicine, grew up with a mum who is also a nurse.

Have a black thumb myself, not literally. Just not enough hours in the day or days in the week spreading myself to thin.

We seem to have moved on to the other reason that people cannot sleep. Activity, the more you run around, the less that you believed you have done, the more you push yourelf to do more. I study and work fulltime, this doesn't leave me any me time. I have told myself that if I was on a beach for a holiday with nothing to do my head would explode. I think I learned that from my father.

I do believe that theory, perhaps the answer to insomnia lies in the genes,at least to the extent that we inherit the need to be doing something rather than the ability to relax.Still think a day that lasted a week would be the solution

I can sleep for 14 hours, or I can get up after 3-4 hours.
I never had a problem swinging my hours into night time, or back to daytime again.
To feel rested though, I need at least 6 hours, but I can be up for near 24 hours even with just 3-4 hours of rest.
I do prefer the night time over the daytime though, so most often I have to swing my hours in the weekend, then swing back again when going to work on mondays.
14 hours if I'm feeling lazy.
3-4 hours if there is something I want to be doing.
6 hours to feel rested.
Thats the sleep I need =)

Aww... I know how tossing and turning can be. But if I can't sleep, I always get up, make some food, throw on a movie or sit down to post or chat on the net, then go lay down on my couch.
My couch is actually alot better to sleep on than my bed... so I almost always fall asleep. Sometimes, to sleep well, you just need a different place to do it =)
I sleep especially well in the beds on my cabin while offshore on the oilrigs. Then I sleep really well when I get back to my own bed again =) But when I'm not working offshore, and use my own bed for a year or two straight, I dont sleep too well in it =/

The sound of the sea might be why you sleep better off shore
Do you see many wild birds, sea eagles and such like?
I do tend to get up when I can't sleep but always think that I should be asleep so feel guilty about whatever I am doing like watching a movie ,reading or being on-line

For me the difficult part isn't so much going to sleep so much as having to get up early the next day...
Am so not a morning person, but when you have to hurry up and get out the door anyway...Some days when I'm too groggy, I'll forget to take a few things with me, and then not notice until later when i need to produce one of said objects and use it.

Sadly we don't hear the surf of the sea all to well in our cabins. Mostly I hear choppers in the distance, landing on a nearby platform that we call the Hotel, which is where most of the workers are sleeping. All the platforms are connected by bridges though, so we can walk from one to the other.
Mostly I hear random choppers come and leave, and the soft humming in the distance from ships, cranes, machines running and a rather annoying foghorn in the long distance, from a platform thats out of commission and stands there yelling with its foghorn so noone accidentally runs it over. Tho I hope they do, and possibly drown the damn horn =p
As for birds, nothing. Very rarely we can see a Seagull that's been following the supply boats or a nearby fishingboat. It takes us 1.5 hours by chopper to get to the platform out at sea so its quite far out.
I did however see 3 pigeons once. Really peculiar, and I asked some of the more experienced guys out here. Turns out people send letters on pigeons between England and Norway, and sometimes they get lost, due to the platform complex here being so large, it disturbs their orientation since the platforms disturb the natural magnetic field that they navigate by. So they get stranded here and don't know where to go. Living off scraps from the kitchens onboard until they eventually die =((( I feel sad for them
Pigeons suck at catching fish ~.~
Anyways, despite the foghorn and feeling sad about pigeons on death row, I sleep like a rock out here =)

Oh, are you a sailor ?
. I like ships. Not to ask any stupid questions tha' you probably hear a lot from people anyway, but does traveling a lot ever screw up your internal clock w/travel lag or do you get used to it after awhile?
SLEEP - How much do you need
xWhiteMousex Posted Aug 5, 2005
I'm not on a ship, I'm on an oilrig =) And they don't travel much at all =) It's actually a huge complex of multiple platforms that are interconnected with bridges.
As for jet-lag, I've never had it, even tho I travelled from Europe to the US twice. Just an innate ability to swing hours easily I suppose =)
