what is the meaning of life?
Jane Austin Posted Jun 17, 2003
Hello Fnord,
You are not offended by my comments are you?? I do hope not, that was not my intention, but you were definitely letting of just a little???? which of course under the circumstances is quite understandable if you are "exam stressed" hope that everything went well for you.
Good luck
Jane

If it makes you feel better, disrespect away, fnord. Have at it.
When you think about it, everything really does affect survival, or at least proceation. There have been many changes between the origional living thing and us. If we obtained anything extra or inefective, we would lose it. When we gained something usefull we would survive. It is no coincidence that we have a taste for the foods that are healthy for us.

Oooh, sorry. Much better now. It's just vaguely annoying that people seem to think that taste has so much bigger an effect on survival than every single other factor, ever, that can in the right conditions affect us.
What *have* you got against English brekkies, Az?

Shudder... had an English breakfast the other day. My mouth was literally so coated with grease that I was very nearly sick. Shudder again - a memory of when I was a medium to large child, looking for alchohol. I picked up a box of wine and gulped some of it down, only to find to my horror that it was olive oil. Don't ever, ever do it. Mmm, extra virgin.
All of the above does have some link to the meaning... it's contained withing those words, for me.

atchly, I much prefer chip butties to English brekkies, though I can only eat them once or twice a year.

You can click on 'preferences' above to change your number to a name. And then click on 'my space' to write some stuff about yourself - if you want to.
Spam fritter butties? Yes, I can see that working.

Cheers AZ. Ladies and gentlemen, where were we with the "meaning of life" thing? It kind of had a culinary flavour for a period there.I somehow hold out hope that if I am ever able to complete the Telegraphs` crossword then there will surely be a sign, flashing lights etc, and then, and only then, everything will become clear. My cat knows but he`s on a diet and is therefore treating me with utter contempt.

Jane Austin Posted Jun 20, 2003
Uh Oh, Bernie, cat on a diet??? he/she will never, ever forgive you, the whole meaning of life for a terribly spoiled, over-indulged feline friend is FOOD!!! and of course finding the most comfortable spot on the sofa, preferably the exact spot where you would most like to sit, have you ever turfed your cat out of a comfortable chair?? to sit in it yourself??? if you have, you already know the meaning of contempt!!!!

I'm still agape at the idea that we wasted many pages on an argument about food. But I suppose, if the meaning is in anything, it's in everything.

By George Fnord I think you`ve cracked it!! This "meaning of life" thing has had us by the "short and curlies",so to speak, for some time now and maybe it`s one of those naughty problems that was never meant to be solved by any one person. And we all may have been looking in all the entirely wrong places! The cat demanded trout the last time he graced me with a reply( still on his diet ) and thought it laughable that we had not "got it yet!". I may buy a dog!!!

Yegads, man, y'aren't thinking of purchasing a pup to discuss deep philosophy with, are ye? Tis the mainst ridiculous tayle I've ever heard - for does not every fool know that none less than a fully fledged robin to talk twaddle on a meaningful scale? The smallest birds, they say indeed, do have the most common big ideas. Besides, hounds hath no noses, and thus they smell something hellish.
*Feels a bout of nonsense poetry coming on *

Cats.. Don't talk to me about cats...
The critters act as if you are the guest in their house, and live there by their leave... Arrogant bastards!
Fish are great. They swim upwards in their bowl if you smile at them, or give 'em food, and go 'blub' at you at times...

azahar Posted Jun 22, 2003
Goyahkla (wish you had an easier name to spell - keep having to look it up in case I've missed a consonant . . .)
Fish have no idea about whether you smile at them or not! For Pete's sake. They just want the dribbly bits of fish food you are giving them. Get real.
Cats - on the other hand - realize totally that they are the centre of the universe. And why not?
I have three of them. They all have me totally wrapped around their little paws. In truth, one never *has* cats. They have you. Get used to it.
I love their arrogance so much - they constantly put me in my place, which always makes me laugh. I don't know any human that can ever do this to me, so in fact I NEED my cats in order to keep me humble.
Bless their furry little hearts.

What *I* love about cats is their indefinable air of mystery and magic. The way they appear from nowhere and then dissapear as quicky - their eyes - their aloof air that perfectly matches mine - their habit of taking what they want and then leaving - so much about them is cool. Fish, on the other hand, are fragile, dependent, and boring. However, fish have a seconds-long memory, and cats seem to be the reason the universe was created, both of which make me feel as if they deserve to be included in the human race.
