I don't know where, but somewhere I heard that some people reckon that a shark ate Jonah. It was something to do with the fact that some sharks chuck (throw up, gorge, spew, to name a few other names for it) after eating. Of course, if Jonah was eaten by a shark, I don't see how he could have gone to preach to the people afterwards. Then again, with God (or Hollywood), anything is possible. Of course, his 'speech' could have been something to the effect of "If you don't worship God, this is what could happen..."

See that's where 'toothed'-whales like the Sperm Whale come into the picture. Or the Orca if you want to sway a little more towards the 'shark'-esque.

I guess, but I'm pretty sure it was sharks, not whales. Either way it's a pretty gruesome story. Oh, and didn't pinochio get eaten by a whale too?

Another suggestion is to carry a "modicum of snuff."

Wasn't that just a wooden puppet magically given life in a fairytale? The accounts in my entry have tried to keep track of some edge of reality - or at least stories with a little more weight like Jonah.

But only if you have the will to continue with the grand adventure.

Sorry, sometimes I lose grip with reality....

Strange how H2G2 does that to you. Must be some kind of unannounced side-effect. Bet you won't find that in any of the small print. Now... back to the whale.
