Thanks for that, Elentari. I've downloaded Herodotus from Gutenberg, and I'll be able to quote the oracle's response if I decide to include the story. But the Entry will need a little rewriting to get the story to fit, so I won't do it now. Maybe this evening.

Thanks for spotting that typo, Rockhound.

The Delphic games were originally dedicated to Appollo, and as such were an artistic contest. Traditional events were added to it later, but the opening event was a hymn to Appollo. (An early version of the Eurovision ?)
Delphi at least rewards readers of the fables with something solid to see. During my recent holiday, to Gozo, I visited Calypso's cave. (Calypso supposedly rescued Odysseus when he was shipwrecked and kept him in her cave for 7 years.) To judge from the evidence Calypso was a twenty a day nymph, with scant regard for house-keeping and toiletry.
Nice entry Gnomon, and one that cries out for pictures of the actual site - its over a quater of a century since I visited, I must go back.

Hi Eds. There's one small rewrite I want to add to this, to include the story about the lamb and tortoise stew. I'll try and do that today.

I've added the story about King Croesus's stew, so I feel that this is now complete. Would anybody like to check those couple of paragraphs over? They're at the end of the section "The Oracle".

Thanks. I've corrected that spelling mistake, and have run the whole thing through a spelling checker, which spotted one more spelling mistake.
So I think it really is finished now.

Might be worth spelling out that none of the other oracles got it right.
Also, I was wondering whether it might be worth renaming the entry slightly, since the current title implies that it's about the town. As you said, there really isn't much there apart from the site of the oracle, but all the same - I wondered about "Delphi and the Delphic Oracle, Greece".
Just a thought.
Ready to go, I think.

Elentariy, I beg to differ. I personally associated the oracle immediately, but then maybe that's just me.
I think the title you suggested is too long and a bit clumsy, but I wouldn't know what to suggest instead.

I'm happy with the title. It's not just about the Delphi Oracle, but the whole ancient site, which as I say is the biggest tourist site in Greece outside of Athens.
I've changed:
The Oracle of Delphi correctly determined this in its answer.
to:
Only the Oracle of Delphi correctly determined this in its answer.
I think this covers the point about the others getting it wrong.

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.
If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.
Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!

Uncrosses fingers.
Yay!
That's my 150th entry - not all of them solo, but I wrote the main part of all of them (in one it was just more than 50%).
