Hi DunlopVolley,
Yeah, good entry. Looks like you have done a thorough trawl of entries to link to too - very surprised at some of the gaps in h2g2 - Berlin, Rome and Geldof himself.
To be nitpicky the concerts weren't actually simultaneous. You explain their order later in the entry just overlapped.
'July 2nd, 2005' -> '2 July, 2005'
I would suggest footnotes for G8, United Nation's Millenium Goals and SMS.
Edinbrugh 50 000: The Final Push - put into quotes?
As much as I hate to admit it, I think that Microsoft's Bill Gates was an important special guest that should get a mention.
'Edinbrugh' -> 'Edinburgh' - in a couple of places, at least.
'beginning off the Philly show' -> 'beginning of the Philly show'
'millions of protesters' - is there a slightly better estimate than this? 'milllions' suggests anything between 2 and 20 million +.
'Although there was some violence' - I think it is worth stating that this was separate from and had nothing to do with the main march (fairly easily isolated and dealt with by the police).
'most supporters were moderately with the result' -> moderately what? pleased/satisfied?
I would break last section into at least two or three paragraphs.
'Thinking about it, for a rock concert, this is quite an acheivement' - to me this is straying into opinion, could this be reworded?
'to quote' -> To quote

Made all those changes except I didn't find the need for a footnote for SMS, but we'll see what others think. I'm not sure quite how to reword the opinionated bit, aby suggestions?
Thankyou, any more suggestions are welcome,
DV.

I think SMS, while probably fairly globally known, is stil coloquial for 'mobile phone text message' - so not everyone will know the accronym even if they do send text messages on their mobiles.
It is also certainly not a verb though! So 'urged to SMS or submit via internet their name to a giant petition' would be better phrased as 'urged to send their names to a giant petition via the Internet or text message'
'Thinking about it, for a rock concert, this is quite an acheivement' may be better as something like 'This is arguably quite an achievement for a rock concert'. This makes it general rather then 'thinking about it' which implies that you, the author are thinking about it in the first person.

Secretly Not Here Any More Posted Aug 2, 2005
My one memory of Live 8 is watching it on the big screen at the Oasis gig in Manchester. A crowd alternately booing Chris Martin and cheering Richard Ashcroft. Humourous.

Is it worth making some sort of comment about the fact that people are saying that Live8 took media attention from the crisis in Niger, and thus might have been counter-productive?

There are still quite a few "Edinbrugh"s - and also I believe it was referred to as "the long walk to justice", not "of" (picky, I know, sorry )
You haven't said anything about the big screens that were put up in various places - the two main ones in Hyde Park, but also in other cities around the UK. Do you think that merits a mention?
Otherwise, this is great I was watching on the screens in Hyde Park, and absolutely loved it. Nice to see an entry on it

Umm, just to be even more nitpicky, SMS is the official term for text messaging, txting is the colloquial term.
Could the first section not be about the Band Aid 20 song, while not being strictly part of Live 8 it did kind of prelude Live 8 in the same way Band Aid preluded Live Aid.
Also your list of English acts, I think you should put U2 W/ Paul McCartney and Mariah Carey W/ African Childrens Choir etc. otherwise it makes them look as if they had their own set. Also I think you should close it with Macca too, as he did finish it just like Live Aid

Thanks, made some changes, think I got everything mentioned.

SMS is the official term for 'a text message' but you can't use SMS as a verb (or I've never come across an acceptible use of it as a verb)...

I think you should mention artists like Calogero, Florent Pagny, Kyo, Pascal Obispo... they might not be well-known in the UK but they are huge in France, and at the moment the artists list seems to just list people that Brits would know. Seems like a good time to promote some French artists to me!

Soz to keep nagging but I meant do it for all of them, just used those as an example. Richard Ashcroft was only on with Coldplay, Pete Doherty only on with Elton John and Noussan D'our (I have to admit I don't know how to spell his name) was only on with Dido - think its worth mentioning they only supported. Also I Ricky Gervais came on, you included Peter Kay, why not Gervais? Even if he was awful

Well, I liked it. But in my opinion there should be an additional list with the worldwide acts.

Just fixed up the line-up lists, so that everything is right. I think the SMS thing is sorted now. I haven't got a list of every single act, a lot of them are unheard of apart from in their own country, it was to long, and I thought that nobody would really be bothered with a list of Japanese artists. That is, unless they're from Japan.
However, I can put the lot in if many people think I should.
Of course, comments/criticisms/corrdctions welcome,
DV.

Put in some of those French artists in too, I didn't really know who they were. If anyone thinks anyone else deserves mention in the other acts from around the world list, say so, and I'll probably add them.

According to the Placebo website, Dido and Youssou N'Dour performed at the French event too, dunno whether it was together. A full French list can be found at their website just incase you want it PlaceboWorld.co.uk if you scroll down a tad. Obv its your discression how much you add but just incase you needed some more resources

I was a bit curious how the two acts played at two concerts, but it was seperately. I can find full ists easily, but I don't think they're that necessary, perhaps I can put up the French one too though, since there were some recognisable acts there? I'll see what others deem necessary. For 10 concerts, it would be a very large list of mainly unrecognised acts.
Key: Complain about this post
