I've been working on the <./>Welcome</.> page - the update is at A42180176 - and I've realised that it just cuts out at a certain point with no follow-through.
This entry is a suggestion for a new Help Page to follow on from the Welcome page. I've already asked the Eds and they said 'go for it', but it would be very helpful to hear what you all (especially the ACEs) have to say about both the update and this new page.
Alex

Is it possible to mention the forum, and science explained as other talkign places along with Misc chat ask2g2 and how do i? Asides that, looks good, I especially like the introy bit, as it sets out waht the read oughta already know in order to be at this point.... Whcih is always a good idea, then goes on to the other informaiton which may/is new to them

I second that, it reads well Alex
Would it be out of place if you had a little section (perhaps) at the bottom with the heading:- "Some things You Cant Do on h2g2" ?
Was just a thought.

I'm not sure I'd want to have an inhibitory section at the end - I've already got a link to the House Rules. It's an idea, though.

Should you rephrase the last sentence: "Otherwise, stop reading Help Pages and get out there!"? To my foreign eyes, it sounds like you are kicking the reader out of h2g2 instead of kicking him *into* there.

Maybe you could mention http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/month in the What to Read section? (I can't remember how to link named pages)
And when you mention going to someone's PS to talk, maybe you should tell how to get there. It may not be obvious to a newbie that clicking on someone's name will take you to their space.

I've added short sections of My Space and My Preferences.

Sorry to repeatedly post...
I'm going to email the Eds about this one first, so that it can be turned into a Help Page that the other pages I'm working on can link to. So, any more thoughts on this one before it makes the jump?

Now I don't like the last sentence. I'm not familiar with the phrase "get stuck in" - slang, I presume - and it sounds like you're threatening that people will get stuck.

I wouldn't say 'get stuck in' is slang, I think it's a well-known and often-used phrase to mean 'get right in and start doing it'.

Still, it's one I've never heard - and if I haven't, chances other foreign elements won't, either.

I've never heard it either, but I'm quite used to having English text peppered with expressions I don't know
