Yes I am interested in taking over a hotel

and making them quake in fear whenever they hear the name of h2g2.
Peta has floated the idea of neogotiating with a hotel for bulk cheap accomodation for the Christmas meetup. If you think that this is something you might be interested in, let us know here!

Yes, I am interested, as long as it is cheap.

...and converting it into an illegal drinking establishment.
Oh, you were talking about something else. Yes, cheap accommodation sounds like a very good idea.

Yes, I'd love to take over a hotel. It'd be kinda fun. Especially if we could fill it with h2g2 balloons or something...wouldn't that be cool? A hotel full of h2g2 balloons.
Do you think they'd let us paint the h2g2 logo on the front of the building, or would that cost too much?
And yes, I'm in favour of total cheapness. But I'm not in favour of bad accomodation. A good balance has to be struck.

I'll have to make sure I am part of the hotel quaking in fear whenever they hear the name h2g2... I am the Muse of Evilness, after all.

As someone with some experience of taking over hotels for entire three day periods with hundreds of other people, might I offer a little advice? (Tell me to go away if you want, I won't be offended.)
To get an effective bulk discount, you will have to guarantee the Hotel at least 75 to 80 per cent of the rooms will be taken by your group-it is possible to get very reasonable rates if you can gauarantee that sort of attendance.
Try Birmingham-it is central, and if possible, you want to find a hotel that is used to hosting events for groups of people who are likely to be out of the ordinary-ie, hotels that have experience of Trek/Anime/SF conventions. They are much more willing to negotiate, and will give you less hassle during the event. I can reccommende one if you want.
If you want to know more, contact me through Mina, and she will give you my icq details or whatever. Or leave a message on my page.
One final piece of advice-you've lost this year already-something like this takes months of planning (anime conventions take eight months minimum to put together)-I'd be thinking Feb/March at the earliest if I was you.

In that case we'll have to have a "conventional" get-together as a stop-gap measure to stave off sanity.

Don't take my word for it so blindly, folks.
I was merely trying to point out some of the potential pitfalls, one of which is time, or the lack thereof. It will depend mostly on what you want from the event-do you just want accomodation and drinking (in which case block booking a hotel doesn't strike me as the right way of going about it.), or do you want other facilities and diversions. All these things need to be considered, is all.

Hmm. What I want is dryness, warmth, socialisation with other h2g2 Researchers, gallons of coca-cola and truckloads of chips with tomato ketchup.

Coca Cola bad thing. Makes me hyperactive, and I'm bad enough without it.

Yeah, after a litre or two things get a bit wierd. Are they sure they don't put cocaine in it any more?

I'd most likely be up for a room in an hotel. Both of me probably, well at least possibly, depending on the day/date. Oh, and the cost. And the location of course.
