Whisky spent one-fourth of his life as a boy, one-eighth as a youth, and one-half as an active man. If Whisky spent 8 years as an old man, then how many years did he spend as an active man?

Thirty two years as an active man.

And assuming that the time spent after being an old man was spent as a dead man, then Whisky died rather young

Well actually as he spent 1/3 of his life asleep he only really spent 22 2/3 as an active active man the rest of the time he was asleep.

Boy, youth, active, old - surely there are more stages in a life, like infant?

Only 1/3 of my life asleep, you obviously don't know me that well
